Job Description

Our client, a global leader in specialty chemicals and materials, is seeking an experienced Principal Chemical Engineer to join their innovative research and development team in Mississauga, Ontario, CA . This senior role is pivotal in driving process innovation, optimizing existing chemical processes, and leading complex engineering projects from concept to commercialization. The ideal candidate will possess a profound understanding of chemical engineering principles, process design, scale-up, and safety, with a strong track record of delivering significant improvements in efficiency, quality, and sustainability within the chemical industry.

Key responsibilities include:Leading the design, development, and optimization of chemical processes for new and existing products. Conducting rigorous process simulations, hazard analyses (HAZOP), and risk assessments to ensure safety and efficiency. Overseeing the scale-up of laboratory processes to pilot and commercial production. Developing and managing project plans, budgets, and timelines for complex engineering initiatives. Collaborating closely with R&D scientists, production teams, and external partners to ensure successful project execution. Providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineering staff. Troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues in chemical manufacturing processes. Authoring and reviewing technical reports, specifications, and documentation. Staying current with advancements in chemical engineering, process technology, and regulatory requirements. Identifying opportunities for process improvements, cost reduction, and sustainability enhancements. The successful candidate will hold a Master's or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, with a minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in process design, development, and optimization within the chemical or pharmaceutical industry. Professional Engineer (PEng) designation in Ontario or eligibility for registration is required. Demonstrated expertise in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS), CFD, and advanced statistical analysis techniques is essential. Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills are critical for this role. Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean) is a strong asset.
