Our client, a cutting-edge chemical manufacturing company, is seeking an experienced and innovative Lead Chemical Engineer to join their team. This role, based in Laval, Quebec, CA , is pivotal in driving process development, optimization, and scaling for a range of specialized chemical products. You will lead a team of engineers and technicians, oversee pilot plant operations, and ensure the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. This position demands a strong theoretical foundation in chemical engineering principles, hands-on experience with process design and scale-up, and exceptional leadership capabilities. You will collaborate closely with research and development, production, and quality assurance departments to translate laboratory innovations into commercially viable processes. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in managing complex chemical engineering projects and a passion for sustainable chemical manufacturing.

Responsibilities

Lead the design, development, and optimization of chemical processes from lab scale to commercial production. Manage and mentor a team of chemical engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance and support. Oversee pilot plant operations, including process setup, data collection, and performance analysis. Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs). Conduct process hazard analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP studies, and implement safety protocols. Specify and select process equipment, ensuring adherence to design specifications and safety standards. Troubleshoot and resolve complex process issues to improve efficiency, yield, and product quality. Collaborate with R&D to scale up new chemical synthesis routes and formulations. Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including process descriptions and operating procedures. Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promote sustainable manufacturing practices.

Qualifications

Master's or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering. Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in chemical process development and engineering. Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams. Extensive knowledge of chemical reaction engineering, separation processes, and process control. Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and CAD tools. Strong understanding of process safety management (PSM) principles and risk assessment. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and project management abilities. Experience in specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, or related industries is highly desirable. Fluency in both English and French is an asset.
