Job Description
Our client, a premier telecommunications infrastructure provider, is seeking a highly skilled Fiber Optic Network Engineer to join their dynamic team in Washington, D.C., US . This role is integral to the design, implementation, and maintenance of our state-of-the-art fiber optic networks that serve critical communication needs across the region. You will be responsible for network planning, capacity management, and ensuring the reliability and performance of our fiber infrastructure. This includes conducting site surveys, developing detailed network designs, managing project timelines, and overseeing the installation and activation of new fiber optic lines. Troubleshooting complex network issues, performing fiber splicing and testing, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and best practices are also key responsibilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of fiber optic technologies, including FTTx (Fiber to the x) architectures, DWDM, and OTDR testing. You will collaborate closely with field technicians, project managers, and other engineering teams to deliver seamless network solutions. Experience with network simulation and modeling tools is a plus. This position requires excellent problem-solving abilities, a meticulous attention to detail, and the capacity to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Occasional site visits and fieldwork will be required.
Responsibilities: Design, plan, and engineer fiber optic network layouts and infrastructure. Oversee the installation, splicing, and testing of fiber optic cables. Perform OTDR and optical power meter testing to ensure signal integrity. Troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity and performance issues. Conduct site surveys and feasibility studies for new network deployments. Ensure network designs comply with industry standards and company best practices. Manage network capacity and plan for future growth. Collaborate with field teams, project managers, and other stakeholders. Develop and maintain network documentation, including as-built drawings and configuration details. Stay updated on emerging fiber optic technologies and deployment strategies. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field. Proven experience in fiber optic network design, deployment, and maintenance. In-depth knowledge of fiber optic principles, components, and testing methodologies (OTDR, power meters). Familiarity with FTTx architectures, PON, and DWDM systems. Experience with CAD software for network design is advantageous. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Valid driver's license required for site visits.
