Job Description
Our client is looking for an innovative and skilled Chemical Process Development Engineer to join their R&D team in **Richmond, British Columbia, CA**. This role is focused on the design, optimization, and scale-up of chemical processes for new and existing products. You will play a key role in translating laboratory discoveries into viable commercial manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in chemical engineering principles, hands-on experience with pilot plant operations, and a proven ability to solve complex process challenges. This is an on-site position requiring meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to safety and efficiency. Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and optimize chemical processes from laboratory scale to pilot plant and full-scale production. Conduct feasibility studies, process modeling, and simulation to evaluate new process concepts. Perform experimental work in the laboratory and pilot plant to gather data and validate process designs. Analyze process data, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements to enhance yield, purity, and efficiency. Develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and batch records for new and existing processes. Ensure that all processes are designed and operated in compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. Collaborate with research scientists, analytical chemists, and manufacturing personnel to ensure successful technology transfer. Troubleshoot and resolve process-related issues during scale-up and commercial production. Contribute to the selection and specification of process equipment. Prepare technical reports, presentations, and process documentation. Stay abreast of advancements in chemical engineering and process technologies. Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering. Minimum of 4 years of experience in chemical process development, scale-up, or manufacturing support. Strong understanding of chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, mass transfer, and separation processes. Hands-on experience with pilot plant operations and process equipment. Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) is a strong asset. Experience with statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and teamwork abilities. Knowledge of safety protocols and environmental regulations relevant to chemical manufacturing. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Experience in the pharmaceutical, specialty chemicals, or advanced materials industry is preferred.
