Job description
A confidential AM Law 200 law firm is seeking a junior-level associate (1 to 3 years) to support a busy intellectual property litigation practice, with a particular emphasis on patent litigation and inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. This is a strong fit for an attorney with a mechanical arts background who wants substantive responsibility, steep learning opportunities, and exposure to sophisticated IP disputes.

THE ROLE
- Support all phases of patent litigation, including pleadings, motion practice, discovery, and trial preparation
- Draft briefs and other written submissions for district court and PTAB proceedings
- Assist with PTAB IPR strategy and filings
- Work closely with senior attorneys on case development, analysis of technical issues, and litigation strategy
LOCATION, SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION

Schedule:
Hybrid, 3 days per week in the office (typically Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday), with flexibility for personal circumstances
Compensation
Annual compensation for first-year attorneys is $190,000 plus bonuses
REQUIREMENTS
- 1 to 3 years of solid experience in patent litigation and or inter partes review proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related technical field
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Active District of Columbia bar admission
- Strong academic credentials, including top 20 to 25 percent class standing and strong grades
PREFERRED BACKGROUND
- USPTO registration number
- Interest in business development, including participation in relevant professional associations
