Waymo's Systems Engineering team works together to blend software and hardware systems in groundbreaking new ways. We set the high performance standards that ensure our vehicles run smoothly and keep passengers safe, then design and perform the tests that validate that performance. We're looking for talented teammates who’ll help us maintain strong teamwork and are passionate about driving results.

This role follows a hybrid work schedule and you will report to a Team lead, Sensing Systems Test Engineering.

 

You will:

  • Own a significant portion of the sensor (mainly radar) verification and validation activities to support qualification of fully autonomous operations, for both recurring software releases and new hardware prototypes
  • Design, execute and debug automated tests across multiple platforms to verify sensing requirements, expose issues, and identify root causes
  • Work with systems engineers, systems test engineers, software engineers, hardware engineers and external vendor teams to strategize on, create, standardize and optimize automated testing methodologies supporting periodic onboard software deployment
  • Write reusable, high quality, sensor data analysis and test automation software (Python and/or C++)
  • Develop cohesive verification and validation plans, including test plans
  • Analyze test data and communicate the results in technical reports and presentations

 

You have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in physics, engineering, or other technical field OR equivalent practical experience
  • An advanced degree OR 8 years of equivalent practical experience
  • Experience analyzing data using Python or other high level language (e.g. Matlab, SQL, C++)
  • Experience in writing testable and maintainable software running in production level environment
  • Experience collaborating in projects with multiple non-colocated contributors and stakeholders
  • Experience with systems engineering verification and validation (V&V) methods

 

We prefer:

  • V&V test campaign coordination and execution
  • Familiarity with robotics, sensing, optics, or perception technologies
  • Experience debugging complex systems
  • Experience with simulation-based testing
  • Experience with autonomous vehicles or other autonomous systems
  • Experience with technical program management

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
