The Opportunity:
The Criminal Justice and Criminology Department at Washington State University is seeking a Cloud Application and Infrastructure Engineer to support the Washington State Data Exchange for Public Safety (WADEPS). As our Cloud Application & Infrastructure Engineer, you will develop and maintains secure AWS cloud infrastructure, webform applications, and data visualization dashboards. In this role you will also work in collaboration with the project team and under the direction of the Principal Investigator. Additionally, you will ensure the performance, security, and accuracy of public safety reporting, and maintain the data lifecycle, from initial entry through final visualization.
The Washington State Data Exchange for Public Safety (WADEPS) is a state-led initiative to enhance transparency and trust through standardized reporting of police use-of-force incidents. It provides tools for stakeholders to analyze data at various levels and supports officer training and statistical research through partnerships with organizations like WSU and Criminal Justice Training Commission (CJTC).
Percentage Breakdown of Duties:
60% - Data Visualization, Application Development and Integrity
25% - Cloud Infrastructure and Operations
10% - Collaboration, Training, and Professional Support
5% - Other duties as assigned
Additional Information:
This is a full-time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime ineligible.
Monthly Salary: $7,150.00 to $9,618.00 | Range 05IT | Successful candidates are typically hired at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and three (3) years professional experience OR a combination of education and experience totaling seven (7) years from which comparable knowledge and abilities are acquired.
Experience with AWS tooling (e.g., QuickSight, Glue, Lambda, Athena, Cloudwatch).
Proficiency in React webform design for web and mobile environments.
Experience using Infrastructure-as-Code.
Ability to perform data reconciliation and build automated validation workflows to ensure reporting accuracy.
Ability to provide technical training and collaborate with cross-functional teams and leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency in AWS CI/CD tools, automation frameworks.
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Experience with serverless architectures and data lake management.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Ability to handle incident management and troubleshooting across the AWS cloud stack, specifically S3, Lambda, and VPC configurations, to resolve pipeline bottlenecks and system downtime.
