Job Description

SUMMARY The Quality Engineer Lead is a key member of the Vexos QA (Quality Assurance) team, with responsibility for both hands‑on quality engineering activities and overseeing day‑to‑day quality team matters in collaboration with the VP Global Quality and other functional key stakeholders and leaders. This role acts as a technical and people leader, serving as the primary escalation point for customer quality matters, supporting the development and execution of Vexos’ Quality Management System, and guiding team members in corrective action, risk management, and continuous improvement activities.

The Quality Engineer

Lead works cross‑functionally within Vexos and externally with customers and suppliers to ensure compliance, consistency, and high levels of customer satisfaction.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Leadership & Team Oversight

  • Provide day‑to‑day technical guidance, coaching, and work direction to Quality Engineers, Quality Technicians, and/or QC staff.
  • Support onboarding, training, and development of junior quality team members.
  • Assist the VP Global Quality with workload prioritization, resource planning, and performance feedback for the quality team.
  • Act as a first‑level escalation point for quality issues requiring leadership review.

Customer, Internal & Supplier Quality

  • Lead the resolution of customer quality complaints and concerns, ensuring timely, thorough, and effective corrective actions.
  • Oversee and participate in internal, external, and supplier corrective action activities (including NCARs), ensuring actions are completed on time and are effective.
  • Serve as the primary Quality interface for key customers, supporting audits, issue resolution, and ongoing performance discussions.

Product & Process Quality Improvement

  • Lead product quality improvement initiatives through analysis of internal and external failures and performance data.
  • Guide the team in applying structured problem‑solving tools (e.g., 8D, FMEA, Ishikawa) and ensure consistent methodology.
  • Support manufacturing process quality improvement through risk identification and participation in cross‑functional improvement

Quality Planning & Risk Management

  • Lead Product Quality Planning activities, identifying critical quality requirements and potential risk areas.
  • Ensure appropriate quality controls, inspection plans, and process controls are defined, implemented, and maintained.
  • Provide oversight and approval for quality documentation related to product and process risk.

Audits, QMS & Compliance

  • As part of the Vexos internal audit team, perform internal audits in accordance with ISO9001, AS9100 and ISO13485 requirements.
  • Support maintenance and continuous improvement of the Vexos Quality Management System as required
  • Review, approve, and generate quality procedures and documentation as required to support QMS registrations and compliance.
  • Ensure timely closure and effectiveness of audit findings and corrective actions, including NCARs

Reporting & Communication

  • Prepare and review regular Product, Commodity, and Customer Quality Performance reports.
  • Analyze trends and present findings and improvement recommendations to management.
  • Communicate quality expectations clearly across functions and escalate risks appropriately.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Electronics preferred) or a related technical discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in electronic or related manufacturing, with progressively increasing responsibility in quality roles.
  • Previous experience in a lead, senior, or supervisory quality role is strongly preferred.
  • Formal education and/or demonstrated experience in both Quality and Engineering disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of electronic manufacturing processes, practices, and components.
  • Advanced knowledge of quality tools and methodologies, including 8D, FMEA, Ishikawa, SPC, and root cause analysis.
  • Solid working knowledge of ISO9001, AS9100 and ISO13485 Quality Management System requirements.
  • Good understanding of IPC‑A‑610 acceptance requirements.
  • Internal and external auditing experience; lead auditor certification is an asset.
  • Strong professional writing skills, with experience reviewing and approving QMS procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and influence others without direct authority.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
