We are currently accepting applications for Registered Early Childhood Educator. Under the direction of the Principal, the Registered Early Childhood Educator will be responsible, in collaboration and partnership with the classroom teacher, to help students learn and grow through planning, set up, implementation and assessment of learning experiences for students in the kindergarten program. They will work in partnership with the teaching team to listen, to respond and to provide guidance, feedback and/or resource supports as deemed appropriate to the families.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • University degree in early child development or a 2-year post-secondary diploma in Early Childhood Education.
  • Registration in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years recent experience in related child care required with current working knowledge of child development.
  • Assignments may include English and/or French classroom settings.

Skills Required:

  • Thorough understanding of early child development;
  • Knowledge of elementary school operations;
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the kindergarten curriculum and assessment practises;
  • Demonstrate effective and ongoing professional communication with parents/guardians, all staff and students;
  • Ability to use tact, discretion and good judgement;
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and non-confrontational under pressure;
  • Well developed problem solving and conflict resolution skills;
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision within a multicultural environment and can respect and work with a diverse range of students and families of all backgrounds and abilities;
  • Demonstrates sensitivity to individual needs of students in a multi-ethnic and multilingual environment;
  • Demonstrates initiative
  • Ability to model healthy adult-child relationship and positive discipline

  • Well developed computer literacy skills
  • Ability to learn and apply relevant educational technology required in the classroom environment

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Works collaboratively with teaching staff to achieve goals;
  • Works as part of a team to plan and deliver appropriate learning experiences for students in the kindergarten program;
  • Provides supervision and takes responsibility for the care and safety of students in the absence of the teacher;
  • Supervises students during the nutrition breaks, rest periods or other breaks, performs yard and/or bus duty;
  • Guides students throughout the program, applies appropriate behaviour management techniques and takes appropriate steps to create a safe, healthy and inviting environment that promotes a sense of belonging, well-being and inclusion with a focus on student health and safety at all times;
  • Observes and monitors the learning environment and takes responsibility to avoid exposing children to harmful or unsafe situations making the well-being, learning and care of children their foremost responsibility.
  • Supports students’ development through individual play experiences;
  • Facilitates the development of social skills of students and learning through play;
  • Leads small and large group learning and experiences;
  • Ensures ongoing positive communications with parents/legal guardians;
  • Works collaboratively with the classroom teacher to collect data through observation, conversation and product for communication of learning;
  • Collaborates with school and support staff, as well as community partners concerning implementation, set up of programs and learning experiences for students with special needs;
  • As part of a team, shares professional knowledge to build capacity in other staff.
  • Attends staff and team meetings, parent /teacher interviews and other events as directed by the Principal;
  • Participates in student assessments and evaluation , parent/teacher interviews and makes observations and provides appropriate documentation for student assessment;
  • Adheres to wearing PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) as outlined in the student safety plan;
  • Demonstrates good attendance and works in a healthy and safe manner;
  • Participates in ongoing daily professional dialogue with the classroom teacher;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Principal.
