Job Description Summary:

This is a part-time, 0.5 FTE position that assists the OBGYN Clerkship and 4th Year Course Director in overseeing the Obstetrics and Gynecology Predoctoral Education for the department of OBGYN, including the 3rd year clerkship, 4th year rotations, electives, and other Obstetrics and Gynecology medical student activities.

Job Duties:

Assist the OBGYN Clerkship and 4th Year Course Director in Overseeing the Obstetrics and Gynecology Predoctoral Education/Curriculum (65%)

  • Assist the OBGYN Clerkship Director in overseeing the Obstetrics and Gynecology Predoctoral Education for the department of OBGYN, including the 3rd year clerkship, 4th year rotations, electives, enrichment opportunities during foundational sciences blocks, and other Obstetrics and Gynecology medical student activities. These duties may include:
    • Assisting the Clerkship Director in completing M3 and M4 course evaluations
    • Assisting the Clerkship Director with grading of M3 OSCEs
    • Reviewing M3 and M4 course descriptions, syllabi and assessments
    • Reviewing M4 rotation requests and applications
  • Assist the OBGYN Clerkship Director in communicating with the medical student curriculum committee and the Assistant and Associate Deans for Medical Education and assist with implementation and quality of the medical student educational program and assist in coordination of institutional policies and educational programs with those of the University, affiliated clinical sites, accrediting bodies such as the LCME, and national specialty and educational groups.
  • Assist the OBGYN Clerkship Director in collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Medical Education: Clinical Sciences regarding appropriateness of assessment methods as they relate to learning objectives and competencies, and facilitate collection, review, and completion of student and faculty evaluations at the conclusion of each clinical sciences block.
  • Assist the OBGYN Clerkship Director in recruiting and engaging with the regional educational leaders on all campuses to ensure student educational experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology curriculum are consistent among sites while taking advantages of site-specific resources and opportunities (in accordance with the LCME accreditation standard ED- 8).
  • Serve on committees (e.g., Curriculum Committee, special committees, and task forces) as the Assistant OBGYN Clerkship Director to ensure that students are appropriate prepared for the clinical sciences block, and provided adequate resources, and the block is mapped to the graduation competencies.

Teaching (25%)

  • Teach faculty, residents, and medical students by giving lectures.
  • Provide regular attendance and presentations at student and resident teaching conferences.
  • Complete evaluations of residents and medical students.
  • Serve on academic, department, and hospital committees as requested by the Department Chair and Division Directors.
  • Be an example of an academic clinician by supporting/conducting clinical research in the Department and support the other scholarly activities of the School.

Research (7%)

  • Design, write, implement, oversee, and present and/or publish innovations in medical education developed at KUSM for local, national, and international audiences as requested by the Department Chair.

Other Duties (3%)

  • Serve as a faculty advisor to the KUSM-Wichita OB/GYN Medical Student Interest Group as requested by the OBGYN Clerkship Director.
  • Provide mentorship to medical students and residents physicians as requested.

Work Environment:

  • This is a part-time, benefits eligible position at 0.50 FTE.

  • Faculty member must be able to obtain Wesley Healthcare hospital privileges.

Required Qualifications:

Education: M.D., D.O. degree or foreign degree equivalent.

  • This position requires a formal degree in the cited discipline area(s) to ensure that candidates have the foundational knowledge and skill set required to perform the duties of the position.  The level of degree is based on accreditation requirements, institutional standards of academic and professional excellence, alignment with peer institution benchmarks, and contributes to the credibility and effectiveness of the role within the university community.

Certifications/Licensures:

  • Eligible for a Kansas medical license or currently hold an unrestricted Kansas medical license.
  • Board-eligible for or certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG).

Work Experience: Current or recent experience in active clinical practice.

Preferred Qualifications:

Work Experience:

  • Experience in medical education (teaching medical students or residents).
  • Experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology education and simulation.
  • Knowledge of Association of Professors in Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) Medical Student Learning Objectives as demonstrated by application materials.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office.
