Hours: 37.5 hours/week
Shifts: Primarily Days; participation in on-call/emergency response as required.

Position Summary
The Fire Marshal provides leadership and coordination of fire safety, prevention and emergency preparedness programs across UHN. The role develops and delivers fire safety education, conducts inspections and fire drills, responds to fire alarms and Code Brown events, ensures compliance with Ontario Fire and Building Codes, collaborates with Toronto Fire Services and other authorities, and supports a safe environment for patients, staff, learners and visitors across multiple hospital sites.
Duties
- Develop and deliver fire safety and emergency preparedness education programs for staff.
- Plan, conduct and evaluate fire drills, inspections and quality improvement initiatives.
- Investigate fire alarms, fire incidents and life safety concerns, recommending corrective actions.
- Respond as Incident Manager to fire alarms until relieved by Toronto Fire Services.
- Coordinate testing, inspection and maintenance of fire and life safety systems and ensure compliance with applicable legislation and standards.
- Participate in construction reviews and operational planning to ensure new projects meet fire and life safety requirements.
- Maintain accurate documentation, inspection records and regulatory reports.
- Build collaborative relationships with Toronto Fire Services, contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders.
- Minimum three-year Community College diploma in Fire Protection Technology, Fire & Emergency Services, Fire Protection/Emergency Services or recognized equivalent.
- NFPA Certified Fire Inspector Level I (minimum).
- Minimum 6-8 years of related experience in fire prevention, fire safety or life safety.
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, emergency preparedness and hospital fire safety requirements.
- Excellent communication, presentation and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to read blueprints, lead investigations and manage multiple priorities in a complex healthcare environment.
