Senior Systems Engineer (Hybrid - Rockville or Tysons, 3 days/week onsite)

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer with a strong foundation in Linux, cloud (AWS and/or Azure), containerization, and scripting (Python and/or Bash) to join our Platform Engineering team. This hybrid role is based in Rockville or Tysons and requires onsite presence three days per week. Ideal candidates may have started as Linux administrators but have evolved into engineers with strong scripting skills and a passion for automation and DevOps.

Key Responsibilities:

Apply AI-driven automation tools to enhance developer productivity and reduce manual work
Support ECS and EKS container platforms and help with security and automation initiatives
Collaborate cross-functionally with Application Development, InfoSec, Networking, and DevOps teams
Stay current with emerging technologies and evaluate their potential for the platform

Must-Have Qualifications:

Approximately 3 years of experience in Linux/Unix engineering and scripting (Python and/or Bash)
Strong scripting or pseudocoding skills (ability to read/write arrays and manipulate API calls will be tested)
Experience with Dockerfiles, containerization, and container orchestration (ECS, EKS, Fargate)
Working knowledge of GitLab or other continuous integration platforms
Cloud experience with AWS and/or Azure

Nice to Have

Familiarity with Ansible for configuration management
Exposure to Generative AI tools for code generation, troubleshooting, and automation

Preferred Experience:

Background in larger corporate environments is highly valued over solely startup experience
Candidates strong in Docker and GitLab but lighter on scripting are encouraged to apply and may be considered

Education

Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
