We are seeking a DevOps Lead to join our team and support our federal customer.

The DevOps Lead will oversee all continuous integration, continuous deployment, release automation, infrastructure automation, vulnerability scanning, and secure software supply chain activities supporting DDPS production and development environments. This individual will ensure all code deployments meet CMS security, compliance, and release governance standards while maintaining highly automated deployment pipelines.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain enterprise CI/CD pipelines supporting secure automated software deployment across all CMS AWS environments.
  • Build infrastructure-as-code deployment frameworks enabling repeatable environment provisioning, automated infrastructure management, and standardized deployment processes.
  • Implement automated static code analysis, vulnerability scanning, dependency scanning, and software supply chain validation processes integrated directly into release pipelines.
  • Maintain release automation supporting zero-downtime deployments, automated rollback procedures, version control management, and production deployment governance.
  • Integrate security automation frameworks supporting compliance with CMS FISMA, NIST, CMS ARS, and enterprise security standards.
  • Manage software artifact repositories, version promotion processes, package management controls, and release auditing.
  • Support vulnerability remediation processes working closely with security teams to address code-level and infrastructure-level security findings.
  • Monitor operational release pipelines ensuring build integrity, deployment consistency, release traceability, and production deployment stability.
  • Support incident response activities during production outages, failed deployments, rollback procedures, and security incidents.
  • Maintain automated infrastructure provisioning supporting development, testing, staging, and production environments.

Required

Work Experience and Job Skills:

  • 10+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, cloud operations, enterprise DevOps, CI/CD pipeline development, and release automation.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading secure software delivery initiatives within AWS cloud environments.
  • Experience building enterprise-wide CI/CD pipelines supporting multiple development teams, parallel release streams, automated quality gates, and large-scale release automation.
  • Hands-on experience integrating automated testing, infrastructure as code (IaC), security scanning, vulnerability management, and compliance validation into automated release pipelines.
  • Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or similar automation frameworks.
  • Demonstrated expertise in secure cloud infrastructure design, deployment automation, and release governance.
  • Experience implementing enterprise security controls aligned with federal cybersecurity frameworks, including FISMA, NIST, and continuous monitoring (ConMon) requirements.
  • Strong background supporting mission-critical production systems in federal government, healthcare, financial services, or other highly regulated environments.
  • Experience establishing DevSecOps best practices by embedding security, compliance, and governance throughout the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional DevOps initiatives and collaborate with engineering, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and application development teams to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable cloud solutions.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting large federal civilian agencies such as Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), HHS, CDC, NIH, VA, or other federal agencies operating under strict security and compliance mandates.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical production systems requiring 24x7 operational availability and strict uptime requirements.
  • Experience managing zero-downtime deployment strategies, automated rollback procedures, release recovery processes, and production incident response.

Required Technical Skills

  • CI/CD Pipeline Engineering & Release Automation
  • Strong hands-on experience designing and managing enterprise continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines that automate code build, testing, security validation, artifact management, deployment promotion, rollback procedures, and production release execution.
  • The individual must have experience building highly reliable automated release pipelines that reduce deployment risk while enabling rapid and repeatable software delivery across multiple environments.
  • Infrastructure as Code & Cloud Automation
  • Demonstrated expertise building infrastructure-as-code frameworks that support automated provisioning, configuration management, environment standardization, and repeatable cloud infrastructure deployment across enterprise AWS environments.
  • Must understand how to automate infrastructure management while maintaining operational consistency and reducing manual deployment dependencies.
  • Cloud Security Engineering & Compliance Management
  • Strong experience securing cloud-native infrastructure operating in regulated federal environments while maintaining compliance with CMS and federal cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Must understand how to continuously monitor cloud infrastructure security posture, identify vulnerabilities, manage security events, and ensure ongoing compliance with enterprise security governance requirements.
  • DevSecOps Methodologies & Operational Excellence
  • Deep understanding of modern DevSecOps operating models that integrate development, security, infrastructure management, testing automation, and operational monitoring into a single continuous delivery framework.
  • The candidate must understand how to maintain operational stability while supporting rapid software release cycles in mission-critical production environments.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree required with a concentration in Computer Science, Information Technology, and Information Systems or related experience is required.

Communication Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written skills, ability to present proposals and performance data, comfortable interfacing all levels of organization
  • Ability to write clear and concise creative content in a highly confidential manner

Travel

  • This position is primarily remote with occasional travel (up to 5%) as required.

Environmental Requirements

  • Mainly sedentary; in an office environment.
  • May be required to lift up to ten (10) pounds.
  • Flexible in working extended hours
