Job description
Space is a warfighting domain. True Anomaly seeks those with the talent and ambition to build the technology that secures it.
OUR MISSION
True Anomaly delivers decisive capabilities for space superiority. We build autonomous spacecraft, advanced payloads, mission software, and space-based interceptors — enabling the U.S. and its Allies to secure the space environment and counter threats from the ultimate high ground.
OUR VALUES
- Be the offset. We create asymmetric advantages with creativity and ingenuity.
- What would it take? We challenge assumptions to deliver ambitious results.
- It’s the people. Our team is our competitive advantage and we are better together.
YOUR MISSION
As Principal Power Engineer at True Anomaly, you are the technical authority for spacecraft electrical power systems across our portfolio, setting the architecture and standards that ensure every vehicle generates, stores, and distributes power reliably from launch through end of mission. You will solve the hardest power problems our programs face, mentor the engineers who build alongside you, and shape how we vertically integrate EPS to deliver real on-orbit advantage.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Own the technical direction and architecture for spacecraft electrical power systems, including solar arrays, batteries, power distribution units, and protection circuitry across multiple programs
- Lead trade studies and architecture definition that balance system performance, technical risk, cost, schedule, and SWaP constraints
- Drive the design, analysis, and verification of power generation, energy storage, and power distribution hardware from concept through on-orbit operation
- Develop and own power system budgets, peak power tracking strategies, and fault management approaches for diverse mission profiles
- Conduct and review derating analysis, worst-case circuit analysis, and FMEA for critical power hardware
- Lead radiation and reliability analyses to characterize system risk and define mitigation strategies for the space environment
- Define validation approach and lead qualification campaigns, including EMI/EMC, thermal vacuum, and vibration testing of power hardware
- Direct system-level integration of EPS hardware and its interfaces with avionics, software, and harness subsystems
- Set and elevate EPS design standards, processes, and best practices across the engineering organization
- Lead preliminary and critical design reviews and represent power systems to internal stakeholders and customers
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers across the EPS and broader avionics teams
- Support hardware through production, integration, and launch
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Minimum 12 years of professional experience in electrical power systems design, with significant depth in spacecraft or high-reliability EPS development
- Deep technical expertise in solar arrays, battery technologies (Li-ion, LiFePO4), charge control, DC/DC converters, peak power tracking, and power distribution
- Demonstrated experience with spacecraft power modeling, analysis, and fault management
- Proven track record owning power system architecture and driving complex hardware from concept to delivery
- Strong command of derating, worst-case circuit analysis, and reliability methods
- Understanding of radiation effects on power systems and mitigation techniques
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence across disciplines
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Experience designing, analyzing, and testing for EMI/EMC effects
- Familiarity with lab test equipment including power supplies, oscilloscopes, electronic loads, and solar array simulators
- Experience integrating and debugging system-level interactions in a HIL/SIL environment
- Knowledge of power supply stability analysis and compensation techniques
- Experience with spacecraft charging analysis and mitigation
- Experience deploying systems in GEO or other demanding orbital regimes
- Experience developing electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) for power system testing
- Experience working in a fast-paced, startup environment or a similarly dynamic setting
COMPENSATION
- Base Salary: $200,000 - $290,000
- Equity + Benefits including Health, Dental, Vision, HRA/HSA options, PTO and paid holidays, 401K, Parental Leave
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, location, and experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
