Utility Operator II

The City of Pitt Meadows is hiring a Utility Operator II to join our Operations department. The Utility Operator II plays a key role in maintaining our municipal utilities and is an ideal position for a public works professional looking for variety and challenging work. Reporting to the Manager of Operations and Assistant Manager of Operations, this position repairs, maintains, inspects, and tests the various wastewater and water distribution systems throughout the city. They perform tasks on PRV stations, pump stations, water mains, valve and meter chambers, wastewater collection, sanitary/storm sewers, and culverts. This position works under minimal supervision and may be required to provide direction to subordinates. Work Schedule

  • Standard working hours: Monday to Friday 7:00am – 3:30pm (40-hour workweek).
  • Eligible for participation in our Earned Day Off Program for enhanced flexibility.
  • May be requested to work overtime at premium rates.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or equivalent, supplemented by courses such as supervision, civil and mechanical technology, computers, electrical or instrumentation.
  • Considerable experience in water system operations and maintenance and wastewater system operations and maintenance; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Considerable experience as a Truck Driver in general maintenance and construction work.
  • +3 years of pipelaying or capital construction may also be considered.
  • Valid B.C. Class 3 Driver’s Licence with Air Endorsement.
  • Ability to safely perform heavy manual labour outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Experience working in a municipal environment will be considered an asset.
  • Candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered for the Utility Operator I, Utility Worker II, and Utility Worker I positions, and are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will be offered the position that matches their qualifications.
