Job description

Creative Director, Video Direction

Join a team that puts people at the center of everything. About us: At Spin, recruitment is about more than filling roles; it’s about creating real human connections. We partner with leading U.S. companies to help them hire exceptional talent through a true direct-hire process, ensuring candidates join our clients’ teams directly while we support them throughout the journey.

About our partner: Join a growth marketing agency that partners with some of the world’s most ambitious, venture-backed companies to solve growth at the highest level. Working with category-creating brands in AI, developer infrastructure, and product-led SaaS, the team operates as a true strategic partner-not a vendor. By combining world-class paid media expertise with proprietary technology-including automated budget pacing, sub-channel performance intelligence, statistical experiment tracking, AI-driven account diagnostics, and advanced attribution modeling-the company equips its marketers with capabilities most teams simply do not have. The culture is rigorous, fast-moving, and outcome-obsessed, built for operators who want to compete at the highest tier of performance marketing.

About the role: We're looking for a Creative Director

What You'll Do

  • Creative Intake & Strategy (statics, landing pages & video)
  • Join client kickoffs to extract key brand elements, tone, goals, and constraints.
  • Translate client inputs (logos, fonts, brand voice, goals, audiences) into tight creative briefs that clarify direction for copy, design, and video.
  • Run video-specific intake: define UGC creator personas, talking points, product/feature focus, do's & don'ts, founder/talent availability, footage and asset access, and usage/licensing rights - for both UGC and Non-UGC concepts.
  • Use AI tools to quickly generate brand summaries, messaging frameworks, audience insights, and video concept angles.
  • Copy & Script Development (ad copy, landing-page copy & video scripts)
  • Collaborate with copywriters and Growth Leads to develop ad and landing-page copy that's crisp, emotionally intelligent, and conversion-driven.
  • Write and direct video scripts - hooks, beats, CTAs, shot lists, and storyboards - for UGC creator scripts as well as Non-UGC produced/motion/VSL/animated formats.
  • Use generative-AI writing tools to brainstorm, draft, and edit multiple copy and script variations rapidly - including hook testing matrices.
  • Review and refine AI-assisted copy and scripts to ensure they sound human, persuasive, on-brand, and platform-native (TikTok, Reels, Shorts, YouTube, Meta, LinkedIn).
  • Creative Direction, Design & Video Production (end-to-end)
  • Lead designers through concepting, review, and iteration to produce top-tier static ads and landing pages.
  • Direct video production end-to-end: brief and direct UGC creators, oversee produced/studio shoots, and guide Non-UGC motion graphics, animation, and AI-generated video.
  • Direct video editing: review rough and fine cuts, captions, b-roll, sound design, pacing, and motion graphics - giving editors structured, frame-level feedback.
  • Combine AI-generated concept art, moodboards, voiceover, and video with custom design and edit work to speed up ideation, production, and alignment.
  • Provide structured, high-impact feedback - ensuring clarity, composition, visual hierarchy, hook strength, and watch-through all support performance goals.
  • Client Reviews & Feedback Loops
  • Present creative work - statics, landing pages, scripts, and video cuts - to clients clearly and persuasively.
  • Collect and synthesize feedback, balancing client preferences with best practices and data-driven insights.
  • Iteration & Testing (including video metrics)
  • Collaborate with Growth Leads to review ad-level performance data, identify creative winners/losers, and rapidly iterate on what's working.
  • Track video-specific signals - hook rate, thumb-stop, hold/retention curves, watch-through, and CTR - to inform re-cuts, new hooks, and creator iterations.
  • Use AI analytics and tagging systems to surface creative patterns that drive performance.
  • Document learnings and maintain a living library of successful visuals, copy, scripts, hooks, and prompts.
  • Creative Systems & Team Leadership
  • Help systematize the creative workflow across statics, landing pages, and video - improving templates, brief formats, QA checklists, and AI-powered review cycles.
  • Build and manage a roster of UGC creators and video editors, and mentor the team on design psychology, copy-driven layouts, scriptwriting, and how to incorporate AI into every stage of their process.

End-to-End Video Direction (UGC & Non-UGC)

You'll own video the same way you own statics and landing pages - across the full lifecycle:

  • Customer Intake
  • Capture video direction in the creative kickoff: brand voice on camera, talking points, claims/restrictions, product demos, founder/talent availability, and creator persona fit.
  • Define UGC requirements (creator type, tone, scenarios, props/product shipping) and Non-UGC requirements (motion style, stock/footage, voiceover, animation needs).
  • Confirm usage rights, whitelisting/Spark Ads access, and platform targets.
  • Scripting
  • Write hook-led scripts, shot lists, and storyboards for each concept; build hook/variation matrices for testing.
  • Tailor scripts to format: UGC creator talk-tracks vs. produced VSLs, motion explainers, and animated/AI-generated spots.
  • Run scripts through brief approval (Growth Lead → client) before production, mirroring the statics brief-approval flow.
  • Production & Editing
  • Brief and direct creators and editors; manage produced shoots and AI video generation.
  • Direct the edit: hook, pacing, captions, b-roll, sound design, motion graphics, and brand framing - through CD review → revision loops.
  • Maintain quality and brand alignment across UGC authenticity and Non-UGC polish.
  • Delivery
  • Final QA and approval; export to all required aspect ratios and platform specs (9:16, 1:1, 4:5, 16:9) and durations.
  • Hand off to Media Buyers for upload, mirroring the statics finalization and handoff process.
  • Capture performance learnings to feed the next batch.

What You Bring

  • 8+ years in performance or brand creative, including 3+ years operating as a Creative Director (or above) leading designers, editors, and creators - ideally at a fast-moving agency or high-growth startup.
  • Currently (or within the last 12 months) working as a Creative Director - you can point to live, in-market work you personally directed and own the outcomes on.
  • Deep, demonstrable command of direct-response principles, copywriting psychology, and how visual design and video drive conversions at scale.
  • Proven ability to direct and critique static ads, landing pages, and video creative (both UGC and Non-UGC) for quality and performance.
  • Hands-on experience directing video end-to-end - scripting, directing UGC creators, overseeing produced/motion content, and directing the edit (pacing, captions, b-roll, sound, motion graphics).
  • Strong fluency with AI-assisted creative workflows - text-to-image, copy/script optimization, and AI video/voice tools (e.g., Runway, Sora, Kling, HeyGen, Descript, ElevenLabs).
  • Working knowledge of editing tools (Premiere Pro, CapCut, After Effects, or equivalents) and short-form platform specs (TikTok, Reels, Shorts).
  • Experience sourcing and managing UGC creators and video editors at velocity.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills - comfortable managing clients and creatives simultaneously.
  • A standout portfolio demonstrating clarity, taste, and versatility across statics, landing pages, and video, and across multiple brands and verticals - with recent, current-role work front and center (what you're shipping now, not just past highlights).
  • A track record of raising the bar on a team - you've measurably lifted creative quality, velocity, or performance, and can show how.
  • Ability to move quickly and juggle multiple accounts without losing polish or creative depth.
  • Comfortable using Figma, Canva, and AI tools like Midjourney, DALL
  • E, or ChatGPT for creative acceleration.

Show Us Your Current Work

  • We're raising the bar - so we want to see what you're directing right now, not just a greatest-hits reel.
  • Walk us through 2-3 pieces you personally directed in your current or most recent Creative Director role - ideally a static, a landing page, and a video (UGC and/or Non-UGC).
  • For each, tell us your role and what you specifically directed, the brief and constraints, the performance or outcome, and how you used AI in the process.
  • Share live links (in-market ads, landing pages, or video) wherever possible.
  • Bonus: a before/after that shows how your direction moved a result.

  • Location: Remote in Canada
  • Salary:$95k - $125k/ Year USD
  • This is a full-time, long-term position.
