Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, collaborative, and innovative teacher to join our Lower School team as our 5th/6th Grade Teacher. This educator will create an engaging classroom environment that balances academic rigor with flexibility, differentiation, and executive functioning support.
The ideal candidate has experience teaching upper elementary or middle school students and understands how to support learners with diverse cognitive, social-emotional, and executive functioning needs while maintaining high expectations.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated instruction aligned with grade-level standards.
- Foster a classroom culture built on respect, curiosity, and belonging.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
- Collaborate closely with administrators, specialists, therapists, and families.
- Monitor student progress and communicate regularly with families.
- Implement accommodations and instructional supports for students with learning differences.
- Utilize data to inform instruction and support student growth.
- Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional learning, and school events.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of classroom teaching experience.
- Virginia Special Education teaching license or eligibility for Virginia licensure through reciprocity if licensed in another state.
- Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to collaboration and continuous professional growth.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching students with learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, dyslexia, or other neurodiverse learning profiles.
- Experience in inclusive or specialized educational settings.
- Knowledge of evidence-based literacy and mathematics instruction.
- Experience with executive functioning supports and differentiated instruction.
