Position Overview

We're seeking a Senior Dev Ops Engineer with deep expertise in AWS cloud infrastructure, exceptional Type Script programming capabilities, and strong systems design thinking to join our Smart Home+ Platform Engineering team. In this role, you'll architect, build, and maintain scalable, reliable, and secure infrastructure that powers TELUS Smart Home+'s connected devices, mobile applications, and professional monitoring services serving hundreds of thousands of Canadian homes.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage robust AWS cloud infrastructure for Smart Home+ services using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles
• Architect multi-region, highly available systems leveraging AWS services (ECS, EKS, Lambda, S3, Dynamo

DB, IoT Core, Kinesis etc)

• Optimize cloud costs while maintaining the performance, security, and reliability standards required for home security and monitoring services
• Implement and maintain container orchestration platforms (ECS, EKS, Kubernetes) for Smart Home+ microservices
• Design and manage CI/CD pipelines for automated deployment and testing of Smart Home+ applications and infrastructure

Programming & Automation

• Develop automation scripts, tools, and frameworks primarily using Type Script and Node.js
• Build custom tooling to improve developer productivity and operational efficiency across the Smart Home+ engineering teams
• Write clean, maintainable, and standardized Type Script code for infrastructure components (AWS CDK constructs)
• Implement infrastructure testing frameworks and validation tools using Type Script testing libraries
• Architect solutions for Smart Home+ infrastructure that balance technical debt, time-to-market, and long-term maintainability
• Lead technical design reviews and provide guidance on system architecture decisions for connected home devices and monitoring platforms
• Design observability and monitoring strategies across distributed IoT and cloud systems
• Implement disaster recovery, backup, and business continuity solutions for critical home security services
• Mentor junior engineers and promote Dev Ops best practices across Smart Home+ engineering teams
• Collaborate with development, testing, device engineering, product teams to streamline workflows for smart home product delivery
• Participate in on-call rotations and incident response for Smart Home+ services, driving root cause analysis
• Contribute to technical roadmaps and strategic planning for Smart Home+ platform evolution
• Drive adoption of Dev Ops culture and practices across the Smart Home+ organization

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in Dev Ops, Site Reliability Engineering, or Platform Engineering roles
• 5+ years of hands-on experience architecting and managing AWS infrastructure at scale
• Proven track record of designing and implementing large-scale distributed systems, preferably in IoT, connected devices, or consumer technology
• Experience in a high-growth technology environment or enterprise-scale organization

Technical Skills AWS Expertise:

• Deep knowledge of AWS core services, multi-account environments, and well-architected framework
• Experience with AWS networking (VPC, Load Balancers, etc)
• Strong understanding of AWS security best practices (IAM, KMS, Secrets Manager, Security Groups)
• Hands-on experience with containerization (EKS/ECS, Kubernetes, Docker)
• Experience with AWS IoT services (IoT Core, IoT Green grass, Device Management) preferred

Type Script & Programming:

• Strong proficiency in Type Script and Node.js for building infrastructure tools, automation
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools, preferably AWS CDK (Type Script), Cloud Formation

Systems Design:

• Deep understanding of distributed systems principles and patterns
• Experience with microservices architecture and service mesh technologies
• Knowledge of database systems (relational and No

SQL) and data storage strategies for high-volume event data

• Understanding of caching strategies, Redis, CDN implementation, and real-time data processing
• Experience with event-driven architectures and message queuing systems (SQS, SNS, Event Bridge)

Dev Ops & Tooling:

• Expert-level experience with CI/CD tools (AWS Code Pipeline, Git Hub Actions, Git Lab CI)
• Strong understanding of version control strategies
• Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Cloud Watch (preferred), Datadog, Grafana)
