POSITION SUMMARY
Join TNDC as an Excavator Operator and play a key role in supporting construction and mining operations on a project site in Northern British Columbia. Reporting to the HEO Lead Hand, you will safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment in a fast-paced, safety-focused environment while contributing to the successful delivery of project objectives.
Working on a 14 days on / 14 days off rotational schedule with 12-hour workdays, this role includes daily fly-in/fly-out travel to the worksite from camp. You will work closely with a progressive and motivated team, helping maintain a strong safety culture, supporting project success, and building positive working relationships on site.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducts pre-trip/walk-around safety inspections and completes daily Field Level Hazard Assessments for all activities.
- Attend toolbox, safety, and other meetings or discussions as required.
- Maintains equipment in good operating condition, reporting, and logging maintenance requirements or concerns.
- Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently and be open to run multiple pieces of equipment during your rotation as required.
- Operate machines to transport trees from logging areas to landing or log loading sites in mountainous terrain in Northwestern, BC.
- Communicates through various techniques including radio hand signals and eye contact.
- Follow all site, company and client specific safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Commitment to always maintaining equipment and site safety.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices on equipment.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance on equipment being operated.
- Participate in any other specified training.
- Assist in general labour and other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience operating CAT 325 and CAT 336 excavators (or similar equipment) is highly preferred
- Comfortable and competent operating in steep, technical, and challenging terrain
- Previous experience working in remote camp environments and rotational schedules
- Strong commitment to health, safety, environmental standards, and safe work practices
- Incorporates HS&E concepts into daily work activities and demonstrates concern for the safety of co-workers, clients, and subcontractors
- Experience with radio communications and protocols
- Physically fit and capable of performing repetitive and physically demanding work
- Reliable, punctual, adaptable, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Able to take direction, follow instructions, multitask, and adjust to changing priorities
- Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to work respectfully and cooperatively in a team environment
- Willingness to learn new skills and support various project activities as required
- Occupational First Aid (OFA) and WHMIS certifications are considered assets
- Awareness and respect for Indigenous cultures and communities is considered an asset

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Ability to pass a mandatory pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

- Work is primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions.

- Ability to maintain performance during duration of shift and extreme weather conditions
- Must be flexible to do day or night shift
- Valid class 5 driver’s license required
- WHMIS Certification
- First Aid Certification: At minimum, a Level 1 certificate is typically needed, with Level 3 or a Level 1 with Transportation Endorsement required depending on the number of workers on site.

- Role requires the ability to safely perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials and equipment, in compliance with WorkSafeBC standards.

- Work is primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions in a very remote setting.
- Required to travel to and from site via daily helicopter transport.
