Lead – Procurement (BESS)

ROLE MANDATE

The Lead – Product Engineering (India) localizes and validates the centrally-defined product design for Indian conditions and acts as the technical translation, validation and support point for all BESS and Sales functions in India.

This is the in-country technical authority — ensuring the product is India-fit, standards-compliant and field-ready, owning testing and validation in India, and serving as the technical single-point-of-contact for India commercial and bid teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Localization & India-Specific Design

• Localize the centrally-defined product design for Indian site, duty-cycle and grid conditions
• Develop India-specific, Suzlon-branded BESS configurations from the standard catalog
• Engineer localization / DCR options with Procurement and Manufacturing to improve cost and compliance
• Define the India BOM and approved-vendor options with Procurement to balance cost, lead-time and DCR compliance

Testing & Validation (India)

• Drive standard product testing and validation in India — type tests, FAT / SAT and performance validation against Indian standards
• Own validation evidence, test records and India compliance dossiers
• Coordinate test labs and certification bodies for type approval
• Plan and track the India validation calendar — sample builds, test slots and certification windows — to protect bid and delivery dates

Tender & Regulatory Fitness

• Ensure compliance-by-design with SECI, NTPC, state utilities, CEA norms, BIS / IS standards, fire & safety codes and ALMM / DCR
• Maintain a compliance matrix so the catalog is tender-fit by construction; flag gaps to central product engineering
• Engage certification bodies and accredited test labs (CPRI, NABL) to schedule and clear type approvals on the critical path

Technical Support to Commercial Functions

• Act as technical translation, validation and support SPOC for BESS Sales, BD and the Bid Desk — solutioning, sizing and clarification support
• Represent the product in customer and lender / Independent Engineer technical discussions in India
• Provide technical inputs to bids, RFQ responses and customer specifications
• Maintain a reusable library of sizing templates, datasheets and clarification responses to speed up bid turnaround

Field Feedback & Continuous Improvement

• Run the India field-feedback loop — capture field and commissioning issues and feed them into central product engineering for design improvement
• Support warranty / claims technical validation and root-cause analysis in India
• Maintain a defect-and-resolution knowledge base so recurring field issues drive permanent design and process fixes

Interfaces & Documentation

• Coordinate with Procurement (vendor ecosystem), Manufacturing and Quality for India build and supply
• Maintain India product documentation, configuration records and application notes
• Keep the India configuration-control register and as-built records so every deployed variant traces to a validated baseline

SUCCESS MEASURES

• India-fit product: India-specific configurations validated and field-ready; localization / DCR milestones on plan
• Validation: Type-test and validation milestones in India achieved on schedule
• Tender compliance: Tender technical compliance achieved without last-minute redesign on priority bids
• Support responsiveness: Technical support SLA to Sales / BD met; field-feedback loop into central engineering effective
• Baseline coordination: Single design baseline maintained with central engineering; divergence and rework minimized

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Experience & Background

• 8–12+ years in BESS / lithium-ion systems in India, in product engineering, integration, validation or applications
• Strong validation and localization background with demonstrated depth in Indian tender and standards requirements
• Proven ability to coordinate with central product engineering and maintain design alignment
• Customer / sales-facing technical translation experience — able to support bids and clarifications credibly
• Hands-on experience running type tests and FAT / SAT campaigns with external labs and certification bodies

Domain Expertise

• Solid understanding of containerized BESS architecture and the BMS / PCS / EMS integration and safety stack
• Working command of Indian standards / tender norms (SECI, NTPC, CEA, BIS / IS, fire & safety, ALMM / DCR)
• Familiarity with FAT / SAT, type tests and field-readiness validation
• Practical understanding of grid-code and interconnection requirements (CEA connectivity, protection, metering) for BESS

Education

• B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Chemical or Energy Engineering
• Postgraduate specialization in Energy Systems or Power Electronics preferred
