Job description

The PASS (Peer Assisted Study Sessions) Leader role is a casual, and highly valued, role which supports student in traditionally challenging subjects. PASS Leaders conduct weekly study groups for students and are current students at Torrens University Australia. They will have excelled in these subjects and can bring their experience and knowledge of the subjects to a group study session.
The role of the PASS Leader exemplifies a high achieving, academic role model for students within their PASS subject groups. They facilitate discussion between students in study sessions, to help them engage with the subject content while integrating relevant and practical study skills. They design interactive learning activities for students, establishing an encouraging and positive atmosphere, motivating students to succeed.
PASS Leaders work within to a supplemental instruction model, emphasising peer support and collaboration to explicate and build upon students’ understanding of subject requirements.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Communicate with students through MyLearn, Microsoft Teams and Email, outlining any expectations, session times and requirements.

• Facilitate regularly scheduled study sessions open to students of identified subjects

• Create a weekly workshop plan using strategies learned in the PASS Leader training sessions

• Create handouts and learning materials for use during sessions

• Attend 50% of each Faculty class for the selected subject, take notes, and (re-) read all required course material

• Foster active and collaborative learning by utilising strategies learned in the PASS Leader training sessions, model different study techniques and openly share your study successes with students

• Cultivate relationships with students within study sessions, to promote connections between students and encourage group involvement

• Triage any student concerns including welfare, accessibility, financial, pastoral, enrolment to appropriate university departments or the PASS Coordinator

• Cultivate relationships with lecturers, to better communicate their subject expectations to study groups

• Accurately track attendance and complete administrative tasks in a timely manner

• Meet with the PASS team for scheduled meetings and ongoing training

• Attend mandatory training and orientation sessions scheduled before the start of the term

• Perform other duties as assigned by the PASS Coordinator, PASS Supervisors, or their delegate on time

In addition:

• Do not foreseeably cause or participate in any activities that may cause harm to yourself or others

• Maintain a consistently grade average of at least 75% across the course of study when participating as a PASS Leader

• Co-operate and participate in activities relating to compliance with all health and safety legislation, policies and procedures

• Act in line with Torrens Global Education (TGE)’s Code of Conduct and all policies and procedures, and any relevant external legislative requirements

• Maintain appropriate conduct at all times including acting in line with the TGE’s Movement, Spirit and belief

• Maintain TEQSA/ASQA standards

• Maintain Standards for RTOs 2015 and the Higher Education Standards Framework (Threshold Standards) 2021

• Under the ESOS Framework, education providers must ensure that all international students on an Australian student visa must: study full time (a minimum of 1.0 EFTSL of study per year); study no more than one-third (33%) of their total subjects online; study at least one (1) face-to-face subject in each compulsory study period (unless it’s the last subject required to complete the course).

• Staff must not provide any advice to students relating to visas or migration. Only Department of Home Affairs (DHA) employees and registered migration agents are legally permitted to provide such advice.

• Have completed the assigned PASS subject at Torrens University Australia (TUA) with strong academic results

• Currently enrolled in a higher education course at TUA/Think

• Working with children check
