THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO CURRENT EMPLOYEES OF THE SECURE TRANSPORT INVESTIGATIONS UNIT (MARYLAND DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH POLICE) ONLY.\r\n\r\n

Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this full-time position will be to serve as a front line supervisor to Police Officer I and Police Officer II staff. This position will conduct and oversee criminal and internal investigations, as well as managerial inquiries, and patient abuse allegations.\r\n\r\n\r\nThis position requires Maryland Police Training Commission Certification, requiring the individual to enforce all appropriate Federal, State and local laws in a fair and impartial manner.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe selected candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license from their state of residence and be DIP trained to operate State vehicles.\r\n\r\n\r\nThis position requires strong investigative skills and abilities, as well as, good writing and oral communication skills.\r\n\r\n\r\nAll Supervisors will follow the chain of command. This is extremely important; the chain of\r\ncommand is not arbitrary and is meant to be followed. All police operational information will\r\nflow through the chain of command. The current chain of command at STIU and all detachments is very clear, ascending from the rank of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, Deputy Chief, and Chief of Police.\r\n\r\n\r\nPLEASE NOTE: This position may be reassigned to work different shifts, or recalled during weekends, holidays, or off-hours to meet the Investigative and Operational needs of the MDH Police Department. Detachments that have four or fewer personnel (including Lieutenants and Sergeants) will include Sergeants in the On-Call rotation. Lieutenants may select Sergeants to cover primary on-call responsibilities should the necessity arise and for the good of the agency. All STIU Personnel are designated as “Emergency Essential Employees”. Your duties are considered “Essential,” and you are subject to being mandated to report, requiring you to report to work or remain at work during emergency situations in accordance with established MDH, STIU, and Maryland policies and procedures.\r\n
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission regulation.\r\nExperience: Three years of experience as a certified law enforcement officer.\r\nNotes: \r\n1. The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Public Safety Article, Section 3-207, Annotated Code of Maryland.\r\n2. Candidates may substitute the possession of an Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university in law enforcement, criminology or related social sciences for one year of the required experience.\r\n3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in Protective Service classifications or Law Enforcement specialty codes in the Military Police Officer field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. \r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a Police Officer certification as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission at the time of application.\r\n2. Applicants for this classification, formerly certified by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission as a Police Officer within the past three years and are eligible for recertification at the time of appointment, meet the certification requirement for this classification. The recertification criteria are listed in the Code of Maryland Regulations 12.04.01.07, available at the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.\r\n3. Employees in this classification may be required to possess or obtain a special police commission in accordance with Public Safety Article, Section 3-209, Annotated Code of Maryland.\r\n
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Selection standards for Police Officer certification are established by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Public Safety Article, Section 3-207, Annotated Code of Maryland. These selection criteria are listed in detail in the Code of Maryland Regulations 12.04.01.04 and include the following:\r\nU.S. Citizenship\r\nMust be at least 21 years of age\r\nSatisfactory background investigation, including a check of criminal history\r\nOral interview\r\nPhysical examination\r\nPossession of a driver's license valid in the State of Maryland.\r\n2. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number or where they can be reached.\r\n3. Employees in this classification may be required to bear firearms and to demonstrate practical knowledge and proficiency in the safe use and care of firearms on a periodic basis, as required by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission.\r\n4. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs. \r\n
