Primary Purpose of Job:
Our Environmental Services team within Stantec’s Global Design Centre in Pune provides strategic and practical solutions to Stantec’s global business with environmental management challenges. We are seeking to appoint an Environmental Scientist or Environmental Engineer to support Stantec’s growing international portfolio.
Reporting to the Environmental Services Leader, you will engage in multiple facets of environmental engineering/consulting investigations, develop skills in relevant software programs, and work with industry leading professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects within integrated global teams. This is an important role within our team and there will be ample scope to grow and develop your personal profile and learn new skills along the way to further your career.
Key Accountabilities:
Responsibilities are anticipated to include but are not limited to the following:
- Scoping and design of ground investigations to assess land and groundwater quality conditions related to site contamination.
- Assessing results of field testing and sampling for environmental investigations including soil, vapour, surface water, and groundwater assessments.
- Preparing reports and management plans ranging from desk studies through to interpretive reports.
- Working within integrated international teams on multi-disciplinary projects.
- Be responsible for adhering to Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work.
- Learn and apply new technical skills for the design, planning, and execution of environmental projects.
- Work as part of small and large teams both in person and remotely.
- Manage tasks and project work under senior’s guidance according to approved scopes of work and deliver quality reports on schedule and within budget.
- Support project budgeting and scheduling.
- Prepare reports, workplans and proposals using Stantec templates and following the quality standards.
- Participate in business development activities, including preparing proposals and building relationships with current and prospective clients.
- Interact and interface with clients and environmental regulators where appropriate.
- Assist in analyzing current and emerging technical issues.
- Apply technical and business knowledge and methods to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions to address project concerns.
- Execute specific technical tasks or requirements for projects.
- Contribute to Stantec’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees.

- Experience in the completion of some or all the following:
- Geotechnical and/or hydrological Assessments
- Sampling and analysis of environmental media
- Environmental Site Assessments (Phase I & II)
- Hazardous materials assessments and abatement (HazMat)
- Remedial action plan development and implementation
- Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining excellent client relationships.
Person Specifications:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Geoscience or a related Scientific or Engineering field. Master’s degree preferred.
- Preferred 2 to 5 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education (e.g., advanced degree) and experience in consulting and regulatory environment is preferred, but applicants with more or less experience will be considered on merit.
- Experience assessing, managing and presenting environmental data using GIS and data management software.
- Experience with geotechnical and/or hydrogeological assessments, while not necessary, will be viewed favorably.
- Typical office environment working with computers.
- Existing professional registration or ability to work towards a professional registration.
- Good organizational skills with ability to independently manage multiple tasks while maintaining focus and attention to detail.
- Ability to meet a strong demand for high-quality, organized, and consistent results.
- Confident individual who demonstrates strong initiative and is capable of supporting project leads to make informed decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and advanced technical report writing skills.
- Time management – balancing immediate and long-term work with varying priorities and deadlines.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
