Job Description

About Speed Radio

\nSpeed Radio is a network for spoken ideas. Built for how people actually listen today.\n

We took voice out of long podcasts, rambling notes, and closed rooms, and turned it into something fast, social, and discoverable. One minute at a time.

\n

This is not background audio. It is a high signal, short form voice that travels. Ideas, perspectives, and people moving through a feed, not buried in episodes.

\n

We exist to make voice work like contemporary media should. Immediate. Shareable. Algorithmically discovered. Something you can dip into anywhere and still come away with something that sticks.

\n

At Speed Radio, we optimize for clarity, pace, and impact. No filler. No hierarchy of who gets heard. Just ideas competing on merit, carried by voice.

\n

And everyone building this reflects that. How we communicate, how we ship, how we show up externally. The product is the behaviour.

\n

The Role

\nWe are looking for a Senior Android Developer who has built and shipped consumer products that people actually use.\n

This is a hands-on role. You will write code, ship features, and own outcomes.

\n

You will work directly with the CTO and product team to shape the core experience. Not just how it works, but how it feels.

\n

If you care about performance, speed, and building something people use daily, this will suit you.

\n

If you are looking for structure, hand-holding, or a slow environment, this will not.

\n

What You Will Own

\n

Core Android Experience

\n

\n

  • End-to-end ownership of the Android app (Kotlin-first)

\n

  • Shipping features from zero to production

\n

  • Making decisions that prioritise speed without compromising quality

\n

\nPerformance & Reliability\n\n

  • App responsiveness, load time, and smoothness across devices

\n

  • Crash reduction and stability

\n

  • Efficient use of memory, network, and battery

\n

\nAudio & Feed System\n\n

  • Seamless audio playback

\n

  • Low latency, minimal buffering

\n

  • Fast, intuitive feed interactions

\n

  • A product that feels instant

\n

\nProduct Collaboration\n\n

  • Working directly with CTO, product, and design

\n

  • Turning ideas into shipped features quickly

\n

  • Contributing to product decisions, not just execution

\n

\nSpeed & Iteration\n\n

  • Shipping fast and often

\n

  • Running tight feedback loops

\n

  • Improving continuously based on real usage

\n

\nWhat Success Looks Like\nYou ramp fast, ship early, and start improving the product within days.\n

Within 30 days

\nYou are shipping consistently, fixing obvious issues, and making the app noticeably better.\n

You understand the core flows and are already contributing to product decisions.

\n

Within 90 days

\nYou own a critical surface like feed, playback, or engagement.\n

The app is faster, smoother, and more stable across devices because of your work.

\n

Release cycles are quicker and more reliable.

\n

Within 6 months

\nYou own the Android experience end-to-end.\n

The app is fast, stable, and built for rapid iteration across a wide range of devices.

\n

Your work directly shapes how users experience Speed Radio.

\n

Requirements

\n

\n

  • 6–9 years experience in Android development

\n

  • Strong, production-level experience in Kotlin (required)

\n

\n

  • Strong understanding of Android architecture and best practices

\n

  • Experience working closely with product teams

\n

  • Experience with social or content platforms

\n

\nWhat This Is NOT\n

\n

  • This is not a role where you wait for detailed specs.

\n

  • This is not a role where you only work on tickets.

\n

  • This is not a role where someone else owns product decisions.

\n

  • This is not a role for engineers who avoid ambiguity.

\n

\nWhat This Requires\n

\n

  • You are comfortable writing production-grade Kotlin every day.

\n

  • You care deeply about performance and product experience.

\n

  • You can move fast without breaking things that matter.

\n

  • You take ownership without being asked.

\n

\nProfile We Are Looking For\n

  • Builder mindset

\n

  • High ownership
