I. Job Summary
The Systems Engineer – Linux / UNIX is responsible for administration, stability, and continuous improvement of Oracle Enterprise Linux environments hosted on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI). The role involves providing Tier 2 and Tier 3 support, ensuring high availability, performance, and compliance of enterprise systems. The engineer will collaborate with global infrastructure, database, application, and security teams, contributing to operational excellence, automation, and platform standardization within a structured enterprise ecosystem.
II. Roles & Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain Oracle Enterprise Linux systems in OCI environments.
- Perform OS installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management.
- Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 support for Linux-related production incidents and escalations.
- Troubleshoot OS, hardware, and performance-related issues to meet SLA commitments.
- Support Linux workloads in Oracle Virtual Machine (OVM) environments.
- Manage and support Oracle ZFS storage systems, including disk performance and RAID configurations.
- Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity using enterprise monitoring tools.
- Identify recurring issues and implement permanent fixes through automation and optimization.
- Develop and maintain shell scripts and automation tools for operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with security standards such as JSOX, PCI, and internal audit requirements.
- Execute system changes following change management processes.
- Maintain technical documentation including system configurations, procedures, and diagrams.
- Support backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes.
- Participate in on-call rotations to support business-critical systems.
- Collaborate with global teams across infrastructure, application, and security domains.
- Proactively identify risks and escalate issues impacting system stability.
III. Years Of Experience
- 5+ years of experience in Linux/Unix system administration within enterprise environments.
IV. Educational Qualification & Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline.
- RHCSA or RHCE certification is preferred.
Must Have
V. Skill Set Required:
- Strong experience in Linux administration (Oracle Linux, Red Hat, or equivalent).
- Hands-on experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI).
- Expertise in Linux system troubleshooting in production environments.
- Experience supporting enterprise systems with SLA and escalation models.
- Proficiency in shell scripting for automation and operational tasks.
- Strong understanding of OS-level interactions with networking and Oracle databases.
- Experience working in global delivery and on-call support environments.
- Strong communication skills and documentation discipline.
Nice To Have
- Experience with Oracle Virtual Machine (OVM).
- Experience with Oracle ZFS storage systems.
- Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
- Knowledge of additional scripting languages (Perl, PowerShell).
- Exposure to Oracle E-Business Suite environments.
- Experience working in audit/compliance-driven environments (JSOX, PCI).
