Job description
Company Overview
At Skild AI, we are building the world's first general purpose robotic intelligence that is robust and adapts to unseen scenarios without failing. We believe massive scale through data-driven machine learning is the key to unlocking these capabilities for the widespread deployment of robots within society. Our team consists of individuals with varying levels of experience and backgrounds, from new graduates to domain experts. Relevant industry experience is important, but ultimately less so than your demonstrated abilities and attitude. We are looking for passionate individuals who are eager to explore uncharted waters and contribute to our innovative projects.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Writer to translate complex robotic intelligence into clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation. In this role, you will be the connective tissue between our researchers, engineers, and the customers, operators, and developers who deploy our systems in the real world. You will own documentation across the full stack—from software architecture, APIs, and SDKs to deployment guides, operational procedures, and troubleshooting runbooks for robotic fleets in the field. Because our robots operate in diverse and challenging customer environments, your documentation must serve audiences ranging from ML researchers to field operators with no engineering background.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation for robotic intelligence software, including architecture overviews, APIs, SDKs, and codebases, serving both internal engineering teams and external developers and partners
- Author clear deployment, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting documentation that enables operators and customers to run and manage fleets of robots in production environments
- Collaborate closely with robotics researchers, ML engineers, software architects, and infrastructure teams to gather information, understand complex technical concepts, and accurately reflect product functionality and design
- Own the documentation lifecycle end to end—from planning and drafting through review, publication, and ongoing updates—ensuring materials stay current, accurate, and easily accessible as products evolve rapidly
- Establish and champion documentation best practices, style guidelines, and tooling; continually improve processes and content quality, and conduct peer reviews of documentation produced across teams
- Maintain consistency in terminology, style, and tone across all documentation, tailoring content for audiences ranging from expert developers to non-technical field operators
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, English, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience as a technical writer producing documentation in a fast-paced, highly technical environment
- Demonstrated ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and accurately to diverse audiences
- Familiarity with software development concepts and comfort reading code (e.g., Python, C++, or similar)
- Proven track record documenting complex software systems, including APIs, SDKs, and software architecture, and shipping high-quality documentation at scale
- Experience creating deployment guides, operational procedures, maintenance manuals, or assembly documentation for hardware or robotic systems
- Familiarity with modern documentation toolchains and workflows (e.g., Markdown, Git-based docs, static site generators) and version control best practices
- Prior experience in robotics, AI, machine learning, or a related high-tech industry
- Ability to understand the full flow of data and control—from a robot's sensors and models to an operator's screen—and reflect that understanding in documentation
- Experience with tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Google Workspace for tracking, organizing, and publishing documentation
