Senior Database Engineer - DB2 & PostgreSQL

In this role, you will work closely with cross functional teams to improve data models and leverage your expertise in SQL database development, database model design, and query performance tuning to help build and optimize high performing systems.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the database subject matter expert for projects and initiatives.
• Support scrum teams in the development, maintenance, implementation and support of database technologies.
• Perform runtime impact analysis query performance, index management, and more.
• Automate routine database tasks using Bash, Ansible, or Chef.
• Create and maintain database engineering process and procedure documentation.
• Recommend technologies that balance business needs with technical requirements.
• Proactively engage stakeholders to understand needs, goals, and constraints.
• Troubleshoot complex issues by identifying root causes and applying creative solutions.
• Make effective decisions even with incomplete data.
• Work in a highly collaborative, agile environment where adaptability is key.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
• At least 7 years of expert level experience in Data Definition Language (DDL) and Data Manipulation Language (DML).
• Extensive database development expertise with IBM Db2 LUW.
• Strong knowledge of IBM Db2 HADR architecture.
• Experienced with Agile methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban.
• Experience in in Jenkins CI/CD pipelines and automation.
• Hands on experience with active database deployments.
• Experience in database security, backup/recovery, architecture, networking, and administration.
• Proven performance tuning capabilities able to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve database performance issues while clearly communicating solutions to teams and stakeholders.
• Proficient in scripting languages including Unix shell, Ruby, and Python.
• Experience with Liquibase for database change management is a plus.
