Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Server Administrator to manage, maintain, and optimize our Windows Server infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be responsible for server installation, configuration, patching, monitoring, security, backups, and troubleshooting across on-premise and cloud-integrated environments. This role requires strong experience in Active Directory, Group Policy, Windows Server OS, virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V), Azure, and enterprise-level server management.

Key Responsibilities

1. Server Administration & Maintenance

• Install, configure, and maintain Windows Server (2012/2016/2019/2022) systems.
• Manage server roles & features including:
• Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS)
• DNS, DHCP
• File & Print Services
• IIS
• Remote Desktop Services (RDS)
• Perform server upgrades, patch management, OS updates, and hotfixes.

2. Active Directory & Identity Management

• Administer Active Directory, OUs, Group Policies, trusts, and replication.
• Manage user accounts, groups, permissions, MFA, and SSO integrations.
• Troubleshoot domain controller issues, FSLogix profiles, login issues.

3. Virtualization & Cloud

• Manage virtual servers using VMware vSphere/ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V.
• Deploy, monitor, and maintain virtual machines.
• Assist with hybrid integrations with Microsoft Azure (Azure AD, Azure VM, Azure Backup, Azure Monitor, Defender).
• Perform migrations (P2V, V2V, on-prem → cloud).

4. Backup & Disaster Recovery

• Configure, monitor, and test backup/restore jobs using tools like:
• Veeam
• Windows Server Backup
• Azure Backup
• Maintain disaster recovery plans, replication, and failover testing.

5. Security & Compliance

• Enforce security policies, hardening, and patch compliance.
• Manage antivirus, endpoint protection, and server firewall configurations.
• Monitor logs using Event Viewer, Sysmon, SIEM/basic monitoring platforms.
• Ensure compliance with IT and regulatory standards (HIPAA, SOX, PCI, etc., depending on the organization).

6. Monitoring & Performance

• Monitor server performance, storage, CPU, RAM, and network utilization.
• Use monitoring tools such as:
• SolarWinds
• PRTG
• Nagios
• Microsoft System Center / Intune
• Troubleshoot performance issues and bottlenecks.

7. Troubleshooting & Support

• Provide L2/L3 support for escalated server and infrastructure issues.
• Diagnose and resolve issues related to login failures, AD replication, file shares, GPO conflicts, DNS resolution, etc.
• Document troubleshooting steps, system changes, and operational procedures.

8. Documentation & Process

• Maintain documentation for servers, configurations, patch schedules, DR plans, and change logs.
• Follow ITIL or structured change management processes.
• Create SOPs, runbooks, and knowledge articles.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Skills

• Strong experience with Windows Server 2012–2022.
• Expertise in Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP.
• Experience with virtualization: VMware or Hyper-V.
• Familiarity with backup systems (Veeam, Azure Backup, etc.).
• Knowledge of storage systems (SAN/NAS), RAID, SMB/NFS.
• Experience with Azure (preferred):
• Azure AD
• Azure VMs
• Azure Site Recovery
• Azure Monitor / Defender
• Understanding of PowerShell scripting (automation & administrative tasks).

Soft Skills

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Good communication with technical and non-technical teams.
• Ability to prioritize and work in high-pressure environments.
• Strong documentation habits and structured approach.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of experience in Windows Server administration.
• Certifications preferred:
• MCSA / MCSE
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator / Solutions Architect
• VMware VCP
• CompTIA Server+
