How will you contribute?
The Parliamentary Reporter (French) reports Senate proceedings verbatim in real time, by means of a stenograph machine and computer-aided transcription (CAT) to be incorporated in the Debates of the Senate, the proceedings of its committees and conferences hosted by the Senate.
The successful incumbent will also complete the sub-editing of the transcripts of these proceedings, provide a Communication Access Realtime Translation service (CART), provide a real-time captioning service of Senate proceedings, manage a personal CAT dictionary database, and revise the Debates of the Senate for the bound volumes. The sub-editing of transcripts is performed using Eclipse software and an in-house production tool (Iris).

The general public to staff one (1) determinate full-time position of twelve (12) months minimum in the Communications, Broadcasting and Publications Directorate. We also want to create a pool of qualified candidates for future needs.
Priority will be given to successful candidates located in Ottawa or willing to relocate. However, due to the unique nature of this role, we may consider remote work arrangements in defined situations.

Prerequisites
- Successfully graduated from a recognized reporting school or a secondary school education combined with relevant experience as a stenographer;
- Experience providing computer-aided transcriptions in real-time mode;
- Advanced knowledge of the French language in order to edit, correct and refine grammar, syntax, spelling, and punctuation;
- Strong attention to detail and ability to compile, analyze, prepare, organize and maintain information in an efficient manner;
- Experience in reporting court or other proceedings such as hearings using a stenotype machine at a highly proficient level, an asset;
- Experience providing captioning/CART service, an asset;
- Certification/experience with steno mask. an asset;
- Experience using Eclipse software, an asset;
- Certification from a professional reporting association and/or a membership from a recognized professional reporting association, an asset;
- Knowledge of or experience working in a parliamentary environment, an asset.
