Job Description
Position Summary...As a Senior Data Scientist within the Digital Twin CoE, you will architect a highly modular, high-fidelity digital twin platform that serves as the "operating system" for Walmart’s retail operations.
You will be responsible for building the technical bridge between complex process simulations in AnyLogic and immersive, real-time 3D environments, utilizing agentic workflows to drive autonomous, data-driven decision-making.
What you'll do...What you’ll do:
- Develop Modular Simulation Engines: Lead the development of AnyLogic models using a library-based approach, creating interchangeable process blocks (via XML and Java) that represent discrete retail pillars like "Last Mile," "Backroom Ops," and "Front-End Checkout."
- Develop High-Fidelity 3D Pipelines: Create and manage a pipeline for converting and optimizing 3D CAD assets into real-time ready formats (USD, FBX) for deployment in NVIDIA Omniverse, Unreal Engine, or Unity.
- Integrate Agentic Workflows: Design and deploy "Agentic" frameworks where simulation entities (associates, customers) are driven by LLM-based reasoning or Reinforcement Learning (RL) rather than static scripts.
- Build Reusable Logic Assets: Standardize simulation inputs/outputs by developing custom Java classes and XML schemas to ensure model scalability and cross-functional portability.
- Sync Real-Time Data Streams: Collaborate with IoT and Telemetry teams to feed live store data into digital twin modules, enabling "shadow" simulations that mirror current physical state.
What you’ll bring:
- Advanced Simulation Engineering: 5+ years of experience with AnyLogic Professional, specifically building custom libraries, using the Fluid Library, and writing complex logic in Java.
- Agentic AI & Modeling: Experience building Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) or utilizing Agentic frameworks (e.g., LangChain, AutoGPT, or RL-based agents) to control simulation entities.
- Asset Management: Hands-on experience with 3D modeling tools (Blender, Maya, or CAD software) and an understanding of optimizing high-poly meshes for real-time performance.
- Software Design Patterns: Strong grasp of modular programming, version control for 3D assets, and the ability to manipulate XML/JSON structures for simulation configuration.
- Academic Foundation: MS or PhD in Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
You’ll sweep us off our feet if: You have built a production-grade Digital Twin where the "Brain" (AnyLogic/Python) and the "Body" (Omniverse/Unreal) communicate via a low-latency middleware or API. You understand the nuances of Universal Scene Description (USD) and have a portfolio showing how you've translated complex, "boring" process data into a high-fidelity, interactive 3D world that stakeholders can actually use to run "what-if" scenarios. At Sam's Club, we offer competitive pay as well as performance-based bonus awards and other great benefits for a happier mind, body, and wallet!
