Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Scientist III within the Office of the Director/Cancer Epidemiology Services/New Jersey State Cancer Registry at the Rutgers Cancer Institute.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supports CES Team Lead/Project Lead on research studies – assisting the NJSCR principal investigator, SRS, RS1, or RS II with the development and implementation of epidemiologic cancer research studies by preparing scientifically sound NJSCR specific statement of work, Scientific Review Board, Institutional Review Board applications, protocols, and other documents (Local Context Supplement, Data Linkage Agreement, Research Agreement, Data Use Agreement) in coordination with the sponsor. Assists with the day-to-day activities of the data linkage team under supervision of the SRS, deputy director, or Linkage Team Leader. Assist staff in performance of linkage studies, monitor study status, creation and approval from the Scientific Review Board, IRB, and Data Usage Agreements. Assist with completing Continuing Reviews in a timely manner and document studies in the tracker databases. Aid the data linkage staff as needed. Assists staff on research studies, including day-to-day tasks that are required to meet goals. Implement epidemiologic methods related to work tasks. Assists with the conduct of specialized research studies of epidemiology through patient contact studies, data analysis, or data linkages using SQL and SAS accurately and efficiently. Assists with obtaining SRB and IRB approvals as directed by study Team Leads. Assists in the response to requests (public, health professionals, public officials) for data from the Cancer Registry, performing data requests accurately and efficiently, presenting the results in a professional manner, and following CES Standard Operating Procedures using SEER Stat, SAS, SEER DMS, SQL, and MS Excel at an intermediate level, under supervision of senior leadership. Assists in the preparation of sound, accurate reports, abstracts, and articles on cancer incidence, mortality, survival, trends, etc. for use by the public, scientists, and other health professionals. Conducts intermediate data analyses using epidemiologic statistical methods (e.g., incidence rates, mortality rates, survival, SIRs) for cancer surveillance and studies functioning as an intermediate level content expert for NJSCR data collection and NJSCR data fields. Conducts administrative tasks, such as weekly/monthly administrative reports, training, research approvals, data agreements, and study meetings. Qualifications Master’s Degree in Public Health or similar science. Two (2) years of related research experience required. A PhD in Public Health or a related science may be substituted for two (2) years of experience indicated above. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Effective oral and written communication skills. Must be proficient in database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. Must demonstrate proficient experience in specialized software tools such as SAS statistical software, SEER Stat, and SQL programming language. Experience in cancer epidemiology, surveillance research, and cancer registry data required. The primary work location is in Trenton, NJ and may require intermittent travel to New Brunswick, NJ. Minimum Salary: $77,661.00; Mid Range Salary: $93,390.00; Maximum Salary: $111,027.00. Final salary offer may be determined by several factors, including candidate’s qualifications, experience, and expertise, and availability of department or grant funds to support the position.
Location
Primary work location: Trenton, NJ. Intermittent travel to New Brunswick, NJ may be required. Position requires fully on-site work arrangement. Full Time, 37.5 hours per week.
