Accounting Specialist ~ 100% in Office ~ $65,000 - $75,000
We are seeking a detail-oriented Construction Accountant to support high-volume project accounting operations in a fast-paced general contracting environment. This role is critical in maintaining accurate job cost records, managing subcontractor compliance, and ensuring timely processing of invoices, payments, and construction draws.
The ideal candidate has experience in construction accounting, job cost tracking, and subcontractor billing processes, with strong familiarity in systems such as Procore and Sage 100 Contractor (or similar).
Responsibilities
Accounts Payable & Financial Operations
- Process high-volume invoices, receipts, and weekly check runs
- Code and approve invoices in accordance with project budgets and cost codes
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
- Create and maintain vendor records and documentation
- Balance A/P register to the general ledger
- Reconcile monthly bank statements
Job Cost & Project Accounting
- Record and track construction budgets, commitments, and actual costs
- Enter contracts, subcontracts, and change orders into accounting systems
- Review and process subcontractor invoices and change orders
- Prepare job cost-related journal entries
- Track project costs across budget, committed, actual, and forecasted values
- Perform daily cost tracking analysis and generate weekly/monthly cost reports
Construction Draws & Compliance
- Support preparation and processing of construction draws
- Track and manage preliminary notices and lien waivers from subcontractors and suppliers
- Ensure compliance with contract requirements and billing procedures
- Coordinate with project managers on cost tracking, billing, and documentation
Collaboration & Process Improvement
- Work closely with Controller and Principal on project financials
- Support budget activities as directed by management
- Implement and maintain accounting best practices and internal controls
- Assist with process improvements related to AP, job cost, and reporting
Qualifications
- 3+ years of construction accounting experience (GC or subcontractor preferred)
- Strong understanding of job cost accounting and construction billing processes.
- Experience with Sage 100 Contractor, Procore, or similar systems preferred.
- Understanding of California construction payment and lien laws.
- Expertise in lien waivers, preliminary notices, and subcontract compliance.
- Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, cost tracking, reconciliations).
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage high-volume workload.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills
- Familiarity with AIA billing (G702/G703) and construction draw processes
- Experience in tenant improvement (TI) or commercial construction projects a plus.
