Senior PHP Developer (backend)

Our client is seeking a contract based Senior PHP developer to design and build scalable backend systems and APIs for a modern platform.

Location: remote

Duration: 1 year

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using PHP
• Build and optimize relational databases (MySQL), including schema design and query performance tuning
• Deploy and manage applications in AWS (EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3) with CI/CD pipelines
• Contribute to system architecture, technical design, and long-term platform strategy
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following best practices
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues across development and production environments
• Implement secure coding practices and ensure application security standards
• Collaborate with frontend developers, DevOps, and product teams to deliver end-to-end solutions
• Participate in code reviews, version control (Git), and technical documentation
• Continuously evaluate new technologies and recommend improvements

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development experience
• 3+ years of hands-on PHP development in production environments
• Strong expertise in MySQL (data modeling, query optimization, performance tuning)
• Experience working with AWS services and cloud-native development
• Experience building and scaling RESTful APIs and high-traffic systems
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills
• Excellent communication and ability to work in a collaborative remote environment
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of deliverables

Nice to Have

• Experience with Python (automation, scripting, or backend services)
• Exposure to Ruby on Rails
• Experience mentoring junior developers
• Familiarity with modern DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
