Job description
Our client, is seeking a talented and proactive Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) / Senior Database Platform Engineer to join their core Data Engineering and Operations team.
In this engineering-focused role, you will move beyond traditional database administration to act as a principal architect of automated data platforms. You will be responsible for the end-to-end design, installation, automation, optimization, and structural support of enterprise database clusters across both multi-cloud and on-premises environments. This position is ideal for a hands-on technical expert who pairs an absolute command of relational and non-relational database design with deep Infrastructure as Code (IaC) scripting skills, enabling development teams to provision highly available, secure, and resilient data infrastructures at scale.
Duration: 1-Year Contract (with high viability for extension and permanent conversion)
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (4 days per week on-site at the corporate office, 1 day work from home)

Responsibilities
Platform Engineering & Lifecycle Automation
Automated Provisioning Frameworks: Design, build, and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions and deployment templates to standardize and accelerate the rollout of cloud and on-premises data structures.
CI/CD Pipeline Integration: Develop and govern robust continuous integration and delivery pipelines for automated database releases, configurations, patches, and platform upgrades.
Lifecycle Scripting: Write clean, modular configuration management and automation scripts to handle routing tasks, including backups, health telemetry checks, and disaster recovery validations.
Source-Control Stewardship: Maintain and structure source-controlled deployment scripts and configuration repositories to guarantee reproducible test and production beds.
Database Architecture, Performance & Administration
Ecosystem Engineering: Build highly redundant Microsoft SQL Server environments from scratch across Development, QA, Production, and Disaster Recovery (DR) zones.
High-Availability Engineering: Implement and manage complex high-availability models, specifically including SQL Server Always On Availability Groups, Failover Clustering, Replication, and granular Backup/Recovery patterns.
Performance Tuning & Diagnostics: Conduct advanced performance tuning, query optimization, capacity planning, and full-stack infrastructure telemetry across databases, operating systems, and network links.
Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner with Cloud Engineering, Infrastructure, Security, and Application Development squads to safely deploy automated platform solutions and participate in major incident triage.
Qualifications
Experience: Extensive professional experience in database engineering, platform automation, or database administration (DBA) supporting mission-critical, enterprise-scale application layers.
Database Platform Mastery: Deep, hands-on command of Microsoft SQL Server installation, multi-tier clustering, performance tuning, and operational patching.
Cloud & OS Infrastructure Acuity: Solid operational understanding of Microsoft Azure components (Virtual Machines, Storage, Networking, Monitoring) coupled with hands-on Windows Server administration skills.
Automation & Scripting Fluency: Proven ability to build scripts independently using PowerShell.
Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Direct experience configuring and deploying environments using Terraform, Ansible, SaltStack, or comparable cloud-provisioning technologies.
CI/CD Integration Tooling: Functional experience managing versioned assets and pipelines utilizing Azure DevOps, GitHub, or Jenkins.
Soft Skills: Exceptional troubleshooting and root-cause analytical skills. A collaborative, self-motivated team player who can communicate complex infrastructure realities effectively to technical and non-technical peers alike.
Preferred Assets & Knowledge
Referenceable technical experience administering NoSQL architectures, specifically MongoDB and Apache Cassandra.
Foundational proficiency with Linux administration and container orchestration via Kubernetes.
Functional exposure to broader cloud ecosystems, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Databricks analytics environments.
Prior professional experience operating within the Financial Services or highly regulated enterprise industries.
