Technical Writer - Safety & Engineering
- Pay Rate: $38.70/hour, depending on experience
- Contract Length: 5 Months
Location: Burnaby, British Columbia
Raise is currently hiring a Technical Writer - Safety & Engineering on behalf of our client. They’re expanding their team to meet growing needs, making this a unique opportunity to work with an industry leader. Our Client, is one of the largest electrical energy suppliers in Canada
Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.
Description
Our Clients Safety Programs team is seeking a highly skilled and analytical Technical Writer to support a critical content migration and standardization initiative. In this role, your primary objective will be to audit, rewrite, and transition existing safety program materials, documentation, and procedures from legacy baselines into the organizations newly established standards template. This initiative ensures that safety compliance frameworks are up to date, perfectly aligned with modern corporate guidelines, and highly actionable for field execution.
Core Project Mandate: Formulate, unify, and transition complex health and safety frameworks into clear, concise instructions that mitigate organizational risk and enhance frontline workforce adoption.
Responsibilities
- Content Transformation & Migration: Systematically map and move safety program content from current legacy templates to the new corporate standards template, ensuring consistency in structural architecture,terminology, and formatting.
- Documentation Development: Research, author, and edit highly detailed technical safety procedures,field instruction manuals, standard operating guidelines, and supporting corporate governance documents.
- Complexity Reductions: Translate dense engineering data, regulatory safety compliance directives, and operational hazards into crystal-clear, highly actionable, and reader-friendly end-user documentation.
- Cross-Functional Stakeholder Engagement: Actively gather, synthesize, and disseminate technical insights through structured engagement with safety advisors, engineers, program designers, and external delivery partners.
- Brand Alignment & Governance: Collaborate directly with the Corporate Communications team to guarantee that all modernized materials adhere perfectly to brand guidelines, visual identity frameworks, and editorial standards.
Qualifications
- (3) years of direct technical writing experience, with a proven focus area in high-risk sectors such as Workplace Health & Safety (WHS), Heavy Industry, Utilities,
- or Civil Engineering.
- Proven capacity to formulate technical manuals, safety policies, or structured reports that facilitate immediate operational action and procedural compliance.
- Advanced English communication skills (both professional written and spoken vocabulary) with an impeccable eye for structural mechanics, syntax, clarity, and precision.
- Candidates must provide a comprehensive, relevant writing portfolio showcasing professional writing samples that demonstrate complex problem-solving or process mapping.
- Asset Qualifications (Highly Valued):
- Previous background navigating utility operations, electrical safety regulations, high-voltage generation environments, or distribution sector processes.
- Professional literacy in visual communication tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Visio, or technical illustration platforms) to build contextual diagrams, iconography, and structured layouts that support text legibility.
- COMPETENCIES FOR SUCCESS
- Exceptional vigilance regarding structural formatting, document hierarchy, and
- regulatory compliance requirements.
- High emotional intelligence and professional confidence required to leaddiscovery sessions with Technical Subject Matter Experts (SMEs).
- Project Discipline maintaining structured deadlines and quality control benchmarks.
- Education and Certifications
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Writing, Communication, Journalism or equivalent – portfolio required
- Advanced Adobe skills
- Graphic design skills, an asset
- Advanced MS Office skills (Word and PowerPoint)
Advanced English skills for professional environment, written and spoken

- Every contractor must supply their own Windows 11 Laptop computer for the duration of the assignment.
