Immediate need for a talented Server-Side API Engineer (Kotlin/Java, REST & GraphQL) – Mobile Service Layer. This is a 06+months contract opportunity with long-term potential and is located in New York City, NY(Onsite). Please review the job description below and contact me ASAP if you are interested.

Pay Range: $62/hr - $65/hour. Traveler benefits as per agency package. (Benefits vary by vendor and assignment).

Key Responsibilities:

Design, build, and maintain server-side applications and APIs.
Develop the Mobile Service Layer / BFF consumed by American Express mobile applications.
Create scalable REST and GraphQL services.
Write clean, maintainable, production-ready Kotlin and Java code.
Refactor and modernize legacy services while building new functionality.
Troubleshoot production issues and deliver permanent fixes.
Work across CI/CD pipelines, testing, performance tuning, and deployment automation.
Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, and QA teams in a large-scale agile environment.

Key Requirements and Technology Experience:

5+ years of backend engineering experience; 10–12 years is ideal.
Production experience with Kotlin and Java.
Strong experience building REST APIs.
Working knowledge of GraphQL.
Experience with Spring Boot and modern backend frameworks.
Hands-on experience with CI/CD and automated testing.
Strong debugging, refactoring, and performance optimization skills.
Experience working in large enterprise or financial services environments is a plus.
Backend for Frontend (BFF) experience
Microservices architecture
Legacy modernization experience
Asynchronous and event-driven programming
Docker, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Gradle
Experience supporting high-scale mobile platforms
