Job Overview
Pulse is currently seeking an experienced Band 7 Oncology / Chemotherapy Pharmacist to join the pharmacy team in Oxford. This is an exciting opportunity for a specialist pharmacist with oncology experience to play a key role in supporting cancer services, clinical trials, and patient-centred care within a leading NHS trust.
The successful candidate will provide expert clinical pharmacy input across oncology services, ensuring the safe and effective use of chemotherapy and cancer-related medicines while working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinically screen chemotherapy prescriptions to ensure safe, appropriate, and effective treatment
- Support the pharmacy setup and management of cancer clinical trials
- Provide clinical pharmacy cover to oncology and other ward areas as required
- Monitor and optimise the use of medicines within designated clinical areas
- Record, investigate, and contribute to learning from clinical incidents and near misses
- Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds, clinical meetings, outpatient clinics, and audits
- Provide expert pharmaceutical advice to healthcare professionals and patients
- Support medicines optimisation and clinical governance initiatives across cancer services
Qualifications and Experience
- Registered Pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Experience working within oncology and chemotherapy pharmacy services
- Proven experience clinically screening chemotherapy prescriptions
- Knowledge of systemic anti-cancer therapies and oncology treatment pathways
- Experience supporting or managing cancer clinical trials
- Familiarity with the AIRA prescribing system is highly desirable
- Excellent clinical, communication, and organisational skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team within a busy acute hospital setting
