Art Director / Principal Lead Artist (AAA Project) — Thornhill, ON (Hybrid/Remote)

About Us At Prefabot Interactive, we push the boundaries of interactive entertainment. We're assembling a world-class team for an ambitious, unannounced AAA title built on innovation, artistic excellence, and collaboration.

Role Overview We're not just hiring an Art Director — we're looking for a founder-level creative leader who wants to leave their fingerprints on an entire IP. If you've ever wanted to build something from the ground up, define a visual language that didn't exist before, and be recognized as a foundational voice of a studio, this is that role.

This is a highly hands-on position — you'll set the high-level vision while actively diving into execution: building pipelines, working in DCC tools, and shaping environments and characters from prototype to final polish.

Key Responsibilities

· Define and maintain the Art Bible, visual style guides, and overall aesthetic direction

· Set the quality bar through direct participation — paintovers, sculpting, in-engine lighting and material work

· Design and implement scalable art pipelines from DCC tools (Maya/Blender, ZBrush, Substance) into Unreal Engine 5

· Lead, mentor, and inspire a multi-disciplinary internal art team

· Collaborate with Design, Engineering, and Production to hit technical performance budgets

· Manage external vendors and outsourcing studios with clear documentation and feedback

Required Qualifications

· 8–10+ years in the game industry; 3+ years in a Lead Artist or Art Director role

· At least one shipped AAA console/PC title in a leadership capacity

· Deep hands-on expertise in both Environment Art and Character Art

· Expert knowledge of modern AAA pipelines (materials, photogrammetry, LODs, optimization)

· Mastery of Unreal Engine 5, Maya/Blender, ZBrush, Substance Designer/Painter

· World-class portfolio including style guides and pipeline examples

Nice to Have

· Traditional arts background (painting, sculpture, architecture)

· Experience with Houdini or AI-assisted art workflows

· Experience building an art team from the ground up
