Role Overview:
As an IBM DB2 Database Administrator, your primary responsibility will be the management, optimization, and overall administration of IBM DB2 databases. Your expertise in database configuration, tuning, security, backup, recovery, and troubleshooting within both distributed and mainframe environments will be essential for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, configure, and maintain IBM DB2 databases on Linux, UNIX, IBM Cloud platforms.
- Perform database upgrades and patches to keep the environment up to date and secure.
- Manage database objects such as tables, indexes, views, etc., ensuring proper data integrity and normalization.
- Handle database partitioning, clustering, and replication tasks.
Performance Tuning & Optimization:
- Monitor and analyze database performance, identifying bottlenecks and tuning SQL queries for optimal performance.
- Utilize tools like IBM Data Studio or third-party software for performance monitoring.
- Conduct regular database health checks and make recommendations for improvements.
Backup & Recovery:
- Design and implement robust backup strategies, including automated backups, point-in-time recovery, and disaster recovery planning.
- Perform DB2 database restores and recoveries to ensure minimal downtime.
- Manage database log files and ensure recovery capabilities.
Data Management & Maintenance:
- Perform regular maintenance tasks like reorganization, compression, and data archiving.
- Manage large volumes of transactional data and optimize database performance for OLTP and OLAP systems.
- Expertise in cloud platforms.
Troubleshooting & Support:
- Troubleshoot and resolve database issues such as connectivity, performance, and corruption problems.
- Provide support to development teams for database design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
