Practising Law Institute (PLI) is seeking a Director, Contracts and Compliance Management to support the organization’s commercial contracting, regulatory compliance, and risk management needs. This role is ideal for a legally trained professional who excels at contract review and compliance support and is excited to use AI and legal technology to deliver efficient, high‑quality legal work at scale.
This position plays a key role in helping PLI modernize its legal operations while serving as a trusted partner to internal teams across the organization.
What You’ll Do
- Review, draft, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including vendor, SaaS, consulting, licensing, and services agreements.
- Identify legal, regulatory, data privacy, and technology‑related risks and recommend practical, business‑aligned solutions.
- Leverage AI and legal‑tech tools to support contract review, issue‑spotting, and consistency across agreements.
- Support regulatory and compliance efforts, including compliance with vendor agreements, privacy obligations (e.g., DPAs, GDPR‑related terms), and applicable government or regulated‑industry requirements.
- Maintain contract templates, clause libraries, and compliance documentation.
- Partner cross‑functionally with HR, IT, Finance, Publishing, Marketing, and Operations teams.
- Coordinate with outside counsel as needed, with an emphasis on efficiency and cost management.
What We’re Looking For
- JD and active bar membership in at least one NY jurisdiction.
- 3–7 years of experience in contract review, commercial transactions, or compliance (law firm and/or in‑house).
- Strong interest in using AI and technology to improve workflows and outcomes.
- Experience with technology, SaaS, or data‑related agreements a plus.
- Clear, practical communicator who enjoys working closely with business partners.

COMPENSATION RANGE FOR THIS POSITION
In compliance with applicable New York City and New York State pay‑transparency laws, the expected salary range for this position is $180,000 – $210,000 annually.
Actual compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity.
