The Opportunity:

Working in the joint Ottawa Citizen/ Ottawa Sun newsroom, the successful candidate will be expected to shoot stills and video as well as record and edit audio on a variety of stories ranging from sports, features and news of the day. Applicants are expected to have excellent news judgment, an understanding of issues, and a proven ability to initiate enterprise features. Candidates must be familiar with emerging digital trends and opportunities, be able to shoot video, and know how to leverage social media and digital platforms to reach audiences. They must be comfortable with filing for multiple platforms on tight deadlines and be keen to learn and experiment to find new ways to tell stories and engage readers.

What you’ll do:

• Take pictures and video for web
• Initiate and develop ideas for enterprise content.
• File audio and video clips for digital platforms; working with digital teams to create interactive graphics and other multimedia elements.

Who you are

• Hold a post-secondary diploma/degree in journalism and a minimum five years of visual journalism experience in a major media company.
• Display understanding of PhotoMechanic, Photoshop and FinalCut video editing software.
• Demonstrate fluency in digital platforms, multimedia journalism and social media.
• Show an ability to work quickly and independently, meet multiple deadlines, and make efficient decisions.
• Be able to work constructively as part of a newsroom team.
• Be able to work flexible hours and own a reliable vehicle. Evening and weekend availability is a must.

Compensation

This is a unionized position subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement. The starting salary listed in this job posting is based on the Year 1 rate outlined in the collective agreement. Offers will be made based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.

Salary - $57,924.88
