Our private school is seeking a compassionate, proactive, and student-centered Elementary/Middle School Counselor to support the academic, social, and emotional development of our students. The counselor will work closely with students, teachers, and families to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive school environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and small group counseling to support students’ social, emotional, and academic needs
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive school counseling program for ES/MS students
  • Introduce age-appropriate career awareness and exploration activities, helping students connect their interests and strengths to future pathways
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to support student success
  • Assist in creating and implementing behavior intervention and support plans (e.g., 504 plans)
  • Support conflict resolution and promote positive peer relationships
  • Monitor student well-being and provide early intervention when concerns arise
  • Coordinate with outside professionals and services when needed
  • Lead classroom guidance lessons on topics such as social skills, emotional regulation, and decision-making
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records
  • Participate in school meetings, parent conferences, and professional development

Qualifications

  • Valid school counselor certification/licensure (Virginia or eligibility preferred)
  • Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to build trust and rapport with students, families, and staff
  • Knowledge of child development, behavior management, and counseling strategies
  • Experience with 504 plans and student support processes
  • Master’s degree in School Counseling, Counseling, or a related field preferred

Pay: $63,000.00 - $66,000.00 per year
