Welcome to GSC!

About Us

At Geriatric Specialty Care of Reno, we're expanding our model for caring for seniors that provides high-quality, comprehensive in-home healthcare services to seniors all across Northern Nevada. From private residences and long-term care to assisted living facilities, our team of nurses, physicians, advanced practice providers, and care providers visit patients where they’re most comfortable—creating a seamless, convenient, and personalized process for seniors and their caretakers.

The Opportunity: As a Medical Assistant at Geriatric Specialty Care (our Reno clinic), you will support our primary care providers in delivering quality care to patients at our clinic and occasionally to patients in senior living communities. Your role will involve both clinical (back office) and administrative (front office) tasks, ensuring smooth clinic operations and a positive care experience for patients and coworkers. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, effective communication, and a compassionate approach when working with patients and their caregivers.

Key Responsibilities:

Front Office/Administrative:

  • Manage patient check-in, verify demographic and insurance information, and ensure all necessary forms are completed accurately
  • Coordinate patient appointments, manage the provider's schedule, and arrange follow-up visits considering urgency and scheduling constraints
  • Handle inbound communications from patients, caregivers, and other healthcare providers/associates, ensuring effective communication and appropriate routing
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records using the Electronic Health Record (EHR), ensuring all clinical documentation is completed in a timely and precise manner

Clinical/Back Office:

  • Prepare patients for appointments, including setting up sterile work areas, gathering accurate medical histories, and coordinating with caregivers
  • Perform and document biometric measurements such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and weight
  • Perform phlebotomy and/or specimen collection; ensure proper handling, labeling, preparation, and transportation of samples
  • Perform point-of-care testing and maintain point-of-care supplies; maintain CLIA-compliant in-house lab and related logs
  • Carry out general medical procedures including injections, EKGs, dressing changes, and suture removal under physician supervision, in accordance with training and legal requirements
  • Provide patient education within scope of practice, offering information and support
  • Assist in care coordination by collaborating with other healthcare professionals, such as specialists and pharmacists, to facilitate referrals and meet patient care needs
  • Support virtual urgent care setup, assist with in-person patient check-ins, and manage communication with remote care teams
  • Adhere to infection control protocols and restock supplies
