Data Scientist and AI Strategist

Paladin is seeking a Data Scientist and AI Strategist to join our firm and support the data-driven decision-making process for a multi-billion-dollar venture capital firm.

This role will focus on the use of AI in multiple forms, data management, analytics, and insights generation to help evaluate funds' financial performance, investment opportunities, monitor portfolio performance, and optimize internal operations.

You will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer, the Chief Investment Officer, and investment, finance, and operations teams to ensure data integrity, assess new systems and emerging technologies to automate processes and deeply engage limited partners and entrepreneurs, build analytical models, and deliver actionable insights that drive strategic decisions.

This role is full-time and reports to Ed Albrigo, Chief Operating Officer, and will work closely with Chris Steed, Chief Investment Officer.

The role is full-time based in Paladin's Washington, D.C. office. The role is not eligible for remote work.

Key Responsibilities

Working at the direction of the COO and CIO, these responsibilities shall include, without limitation:

Analytics & AI Modeling

Perform exploratory data analysis and build predictive models for deal sourcing, portfolio performance, funds' performance, and fund raising

Assess systems and emerging technologies to support teams across the organization to automate processes and perform research and analysis

Utilize AI models including LLMs for analytics and automated reporting.

Optimize prompt engineering for LLMs for internal use cases

Specific LLM Use Cases for exploration include but are not limited to:

Portfolio Companies Analytics:

Identify patterns, insights into portfolio companies' performance in total and for each company

Funds' Performance:

Identify patterns, insights into funds' performance in total and for each fund

Deal Sourcing:

Leverage information and capabilities of our deal sourcing platforms to enhance efficiency of deal sourcing

Market Trend Analysis:

Extract insights from news, research reports, and social media

Data Management & Integration

Collect, clean, and maintain structured and unstructured data from multiple sources and create datasets for input into analytic systems and private equity management systems

Manage and link data across multiple private equity management systems and

Ensure data quality, consistency, and compliance with governance standards

Participate in due diligence efforts with the investment team on potential investments in startups

Build dashboards and visualization tools for the Paladin team

Present analysis and findings in a clear, actionable manner

Collaboration & Support

Partner with cross-functional teams to understand data needs and deliver solutions.

Document methodologies and maintain reproducibility of analyses

Consistently demonstrate initiative to take on tasks beyond immediate role.

Key Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field

Demonstrated experience with various forms of Artificial Intelligence and LLMs such as Microsoft Copilot and Chat GPT

Proficient with tools and languages such as Excel, BI tools such as Power BI, AWS Quicksight and languages such as SQL, Python and Vibe

• 7 years of equivalent work experience demonstrating strong analytical and problemsolving skills

Strong analytical capabilities along with initiative to develop business acumen for venture investing

Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Highly organized with attention to detail, and highly collaborative

Proficient in creating effective visuals and presentation materials

Insatiable curiosity, independent in thought and collaborative by nature.
