Job Title: Insurance Authorization Specialist

Job Summary The Insurance Authorization Specialist helps patients get approval from insurance companies before medical services are provided.

Their main responsibility is to check insurance requirements, collect the correct medical documents, and submit authorization requests to insurance companies so that treatment payments can be approved smoothly.

They also coordinate with doctors offices and insurance providers to make sure all necessary approvals are completed on time.

This role supports patient safety, smooth billing processes, and excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

• Verify patient insurance details and authorization requirements
• Collect and review accurate medical records
• Submit authorization requests to insurance companies
• Follow up with insurance providers for approval status
• Coordinate with physician offices for missing documents or information
• Ensure all approvals are completed before patient services
• Maintain high accuracy and quality in work (>95%)
• Provide professional customer service to patients, clients, and colleagues
• Meet daily productivity and performance targets
• Perform other assigned tasks as required

Required Skills

• Good understanding of health insurance and authorization processes
• Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT codes, or procedure codes
• Basic understanding of revenue cycle management (billing, payments, denials)
• Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Ability to work well with team members and senior staff
• Good time management and accountability

Preferred Experience

• 1 to 3 years of experience in healthcare-related roles
• Experience in Patient Access or Insurance Verification
• Experience with managed care / insurance authorization processes
• Understanding of hospital admission, billing, and denial management

Education

• Bachelors Degree in any discipline

Preferred Certification

• CRCR (Certified Revenue Cycle Representative) – Preferred but not mandatory
