Job description
Opportunities at OpenPath Products
We are looking for software engineers who want to keep learning, solve meaningful problems, and build production software used by real people.
We are a long-established engineering company based in Annapolis, Maryland, with deep experience in mobile, connected devices, enterprise systems, and emerging technology. Since 2001, we have built solutions across iOS, Android, web, IoT, automotive, financial, medical, and entertainment technologies for some of the world’s most innovative organizations.
This is not a “just follow the spec” position. We value engineers who can understand the “why” behind the work, communicate clearly, think through tradeoffs, and collaborate well with teammates, architects, security specialists, backend developers, QA, and client stakeholders. Development at OpenPath is a team sport, and strong technical work depends on strong communication, good judgment, and shared ownership.
We are looking for engineers who are comfortable with modern engineering tools — including AI — and use them with discipline, good judgment, and appropriate skepticism. We are interested in people who can move faster without becoming careless, who can experiment without chasing buzzwords, and who understand that tools are only useful when paired with sound engineering fundamentals.
What You Will Do
In this role, you will help design, build, test, and support modern software applications across mobile, web, connected device, and enterprise environments. Depending on your background and project assignment, your work may include:
- Building native or cross-platform applications for phones, tablets, watches, TVs, voice interfaces, automotive systems, or connected devices.
- Participating in requirements gathering, technical design, agile development, testing, documentation, and customer interaction.
- Working with backend developers, systems architects, security specialists, and QA engineers to deliver software that is fast, secure, reliable, and production-ready.
- Learning new technologies, contributing fresh ideas, and helping the team improve how we build software.
- Using modern development tools, automation, and AI-assisted workflows responsibly to improve quality, productivity, and technical understanding.
What We Are Looking For
Strong candidates usually bring a mix of technical skill, curiosity, humility, and practical problem-solving ability. We are especially interested in people who have:
- A solid understanding of software development principles, including object-oriented programming, design patterns, and maintainable code structure.
- Experience with one or more of the following: Kotlin, Swift, SwiftUI, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular, React, React Native, C#, C++, or Python.
- Familiarity with agile development, Git-based workflows, Jira or similar tools, CI/CD, and standard SDLC practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- The ability to work well in a collaborative team environment.
- Curiosity beyond your immediate assignment — for example, interest in networking, security, hardware integration, IoT, AI, automation, system design, or user experience.
- A practical, skeptical, engineering-minded approach to new tools and technologies
Helpful Experience
Depending on the role and project, the following may be helpful:
- Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Swift, SwiftUI, React Native, Angular, or React.
- Mobile architecture patterns such as MVVM or Clean Architecture.
- Networking fundamentals, including the OSI model, Charles Proxy, or Wireshark.
- Technical documentation, requirements writing, UML, or system design.
- Familiarity with Apple Human Interface Guidelines, Google/Android design guidelines, or Material Design.
- Internship, hackathon, personal project, open-source, volunteer, or other experience that shows initiative beyond standard coursework.
New graduates and early-career engineers are encouraged to apply if they can demonstrate strong fundamentals, curiosity, communication skills, and a track record of learning beyond the classroom.
What We Offer
OpenPath offers a rare combination of meaningful engineering work and continuous growth. We provide:
- Excellent health insurance, vision, dental, life, LTD, and a generous 401k plan.
- A culture of continuous learning, mentoring, and professional development.
- The opportunity to work on important software used by people around the world.
