Position Summary:
OSSCO is seeking a Summer Student to work as its Communications Specialist to reach older adults across Ontario. They help strengthen engagement with our members, supporters, and organizations through community outreach. The student assists with promoting and communicating educational programming for workshops, webinars, and the fall Seniors Conference & AGM using various digital communications methods and platforms.
This position reports to the Team Lead, Communications & Educational Programs.
Key Responsibilities
· Assist with community outreach and meaningful engagement with seniors’ about OSSCO programs, workshops, and Seniors’ Conference & AGM.
· Create and update content for website copy and for social media dealing with Conference & AGM, educational program information, news and resources, and other materials as required.
· Leverage existing networks, marketing channels and digital platforms to post and update conference and other educational program information
· Respond to member and community inquiries by email and phone in a professional and timely manner including dealing with educational program/Conference registrations.
· Follow-up with registrants, members, supporters and community contacts to encourage program participation and build relationships with OSSCO.
· Track outreach activities/outcomes, program registrations and attendance, and community engagement results as summaries for their supervisor.
Qualifications
· Must meet the eligibility requirements of the Canada Summer Jobs program.
· Post-secondary studies in communications, marketing, public relations, community development, human services, gerontology, social work, or a related field.
· Strong written and verbal communication, organization skills, and attention to detail.
· Demonstrated skills using Microsoft Office, Canva, Eventbrite, and common social media platforms.
· Ability to work both independently and as part of a small, collaborative team.
· Experience working with or engaging older adults (55+) is an asset.
Employment Information
Position Type : Full-time, temporary (Canada Summer Jobs)
Rate / Hours : $18.55 per hour; 31 hours per week
Term : 9 weeks; starting June 1, 2026
