Arts and Sciences | HistoryThe Senior Academic Advisor fosters student success by defining and implementing proactive strategies that help students stay on track to fulfill their educational goals. This role advises students majoring in History on university policies and procedures, program and degree requirements, and related academic matters. The Senior Advisor directs students to appropriate resources, identifies new supports and collaborations to resolve student cases, and provides leadership within the advising community.
This position serves as a mentor to new advisors and assists with training and onboarding. The Senior Academic Advisor coordinates and supports student orientation planning and delivery in collaboration with the central advising office. Additionally, this role teaches a student survey course and a department career development course, including updating materials and recommending and implementing course improvements.
The Senior Academic Advisor supports graduation activities such as commencement rehearsal and line-up, and contributes to departmental initiatives, committee work (including the Undergraduate Teaching Committee and Awards and Prizes Committee), and special projects as assigned. Additional advising responsibilities include serving as pre-law advisor, supporting the History of Conflict and Diplomacy Certificate, and providing backup coverage for the college’s Leadership major. The role also maintains the undergraduate student handbook, participates in recruitment and outreach activities, and advises on long-term scheduling.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree required
- Minimum of two years of relevant experience
- Deep understanding of academic programs, specialty areas, and university policies and procedures
- Strong adaptive relational skills
- Superior communication skills with ability to provide detail, depth, and context
- Ability to recommend policy, practice, and program changes to unit and/or university leadership
- Knowledge of FERPA guidelines with ability to interpret, explain, and train others
- Ability to mentor and support other advisors on complex topics
- Demonstrated cultural competence across multiple cultures and/or identities
- Ability to identify and anticipate the impact of current and proposed policies and practices on students and their programs

The pay range for this job profile is $51,500.00 - $67,250.00 per year. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
