The NP will work within their full scope of practice as outlined by the Regulated Health Professions Act and practice in accordance with the CNO standards, guidelines, and relevant laws.
The NP will provide direct patient care, consultation and education to patients and families in the ED.
The NP will order and interpret diagnostics, develop treatment plans, and perform interventions. The NP will work independently and in collaboration with medical and nursing staff, and engage in research and Quality Improvement projects as appropriate. Specific role and practice responsibilities will be determined based on operational needs.
The NP role in the ED is growing at Oak Valley Health with exciting new opportunities on the horizon including a Provider in Triage role. This role offers the NP the chance to help shape a new model of care in our ED by working as a dedicated provider in triage. In this capacity, the NP will independently order diagnostic tests and expedite patient assessments right from the point of arrival, accelerating time to care and making a direct, meaningful impact on patient flow and outcomes. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated NP to lead innovation at the front door of emergency care.
What you bring to the role:
Currently Registered or eligible for licensure in good standing as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) with the CNO
BScN Required
BCLS required
ACLS preferred
Successful completion of a Nurse Practitioner Program from a recognized University, Masters level preferred
Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in the Emergency Department is required
Current membership with the RNAO and the NPAO is an asset
Experience working with patients of all ages
Demonstrated strong leadership and clinical skills
Previous experience with suturing, wound care, and special procedures such as casting are considered an asset
Demonstrated evidence of Interprofessional collaboration with Physicians, nurses and other allied health professionals
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
Critical thinking
Ability to be self-directed in clinical practice particularly in the areas of assessment, intervention/therapeutics and diagnosis
In-depth knowledge of the legislation and guidelines that govern NP practice within the Emergency Department setting
Must be willing to work flexible hours and willingness to pivot to support patient care needs in the Emergency Department
Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI)
Demonstrated commitment to a safe environment for staff, patients and families by working in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and related Hospital policies
Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with organization related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
Work Schedule:
The successful candidate must be available to work 10-hour shifts, working predominantly days and evenings
