What we are looking for:

The data scientist will partner with business analysts and operational leaders to provide an impact by leveraging data and analytical tools, strategic thinking, and hypothesis-based analysis on machine learning (ML)-based projects. The data scientist is responsible for modeling complex business problems through statistical, algorithmic, mining, and visualization techniques. They will develop new AI tools and lead ML/AI projects. Further, they will help design and implement new data infrastructure related to ML/AI at the organization to meet evolving business needs. Ensure compliance with healthcare data privacy and security standards. Perform in high autonomy in driving projects end-to-end, from problem definition through implementation, with minimal supervision. Support quality improvement, population health, and research initiatives.

Reporting to the Manager, Analytics & Business Intelligence, and working directly with other members of the Business Intelligence and Decision Support team and/or individuals at various levels within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Translates business needs into analytics/reporting requirements to support executive decisions and workflows with required information
  • Performs large-scale experimentation and builds data-driven models to answer business questions
  • Proactively mines data sources to identify trends and patterns and generates insights for business units and senior leadership
  • Performs large-scale experimentation to identify hidden relationships between variables in large datasets
  • Research and implements cutting-edge techniques and tools in machine learning/deep learning/artificial intelligence to make data analysis more efficient
  • Applies statistical analysis and visualization techniques to various data, such as hierarchical clustering, T-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding (t-SNE), or principal components analysis (PCA) machine learning
  • Designs and conduct data analysis with the highest standard of rigor and scientific accuracy; this includes study design, research, methodology, algorithms, evaluation and statistical modeling
  • Maintain documentation for all the activities listed above.
  • Support clinical and non-clinical areas in the development of KPIs, dashboards, data visualizations, and reports (routine and ad hoc) for the purposes of monitoring and optimizing organization performance on quality, safety, operations, and planning
  • Support reporting to various external reporting agencies including Ontario Health, and the Ministry of Health and Long-term Care
  • Conduct data quality investigations and engage in continuous data quality improvements
  • Provide guidance, support, and coaching to the Decision Support and Business Intelligence Team.
  • Able to mentor and coach junior analysts or students, contributing to team capability-building and knowledge sharing.

What you bring to the role:

Education

  • Completion of a recognized University degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics or equivalent combination of education and experience; Master degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics is preferred

Experience

  • 3+ years of project experience in successfully launching, planning and executing data science projects, including statistical analysis, data engineering, and data visualization

Skills and Initiative:

  • Knowledge of statistical and data mining techniques such as generalized linear model (GLM)/regression, random forest, boosting, trees, text mining, hierarchical clustering, deep learning, convolutional neural network (CNN), recurrent neural network (RNN)
  • Strong proficiency in multiple programming languages and statistical analysis tools such as Python, C++, JavaScript, R, SAS, Excel, SQL, MATLAB, SPSS
  • Expertise in BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or other data visualization tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness and ability to learn new technologies on the job
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision and also possessing a positive team spirited attitude
  • Excellent interpersonal and client relationship skills
  • Communicate insights in clear, non-technical language to diverse audiences
  • Ability to communicate complex projects, models, and results to a diverse audience with a wide range of understanding
  • Superior presentation skills, including storytelling and other techniques to guide and inspire
  • Ability to work in diverse, cross-functional teams in a dynamic business environment
  • Ability to multi-task with strong attention to detail within a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Adhering to confidentiality and privacy requirements for sensitive financial and clinical information.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required

Considered an asset:

  • Experience in a healthcare decision support environment
  • Experience with hospital data sets (e.g. DAD, NACRS, NRS, etc.), patient information systems, finance, HR, decision support and metrics
  • Experience with Microsoft ML and AI tools such as MS Fabric, MS Foundry, MS Copilot Studio
  • Experience with Microsoft Power BI

Work Schedule:

Monday to Friday days (900am-500pm). Schedules may change based on operational needs.

Hybrid model of in the office and remote work.

$49.30 - $60.53
